A true story green claims green facts green range PAcKAGInG Is GrEEn! no. no packaging or packaging material can be claimed to be fully environmentally sound. As a matter of fact, each step in the product life cycle has an impact on the environment: We call it the product footprint. PrODucT responsibility EnDs AT THE PrODucTIOn GATE! no. Life cycle thinking is essential to decrease the footprint and make value chains more sustainable. Our approach is based on the Life cycle Initiative set out in the united nations Environment Programme, which we signed in 2009. It involves actively managing the environmental, safety and health impacts of products throughout their life cycles. It starts with the sourcing of raw materials and encompasses manufacturing, processing, retailing and consumption, and ends with disposal and, in some cases, recovery.

PAcKAGInG can BE MADE GrEEnEr! YeS. Mondi is firmly committed to helping customers achieve their sustainability goals. It has led us to develop smart solutions with reduced environmental impact: the Green range. Being fully integrated across the paper and packaging chain, with in-depth understanding of customers markets and products, makes us well equipped to provide the right solution for your success.

A true story green claims green facts green range GO GrEEn WITH THE GrEEn range The Green range product family was developed to promote environmentally preferable purchasing, and to support you, our customers, in going green. It consists of paper and packaging solutions that are optimised to save natural resources and reduce waste and certified by internationally rec og nised bodies for their sustainability. green FAcTS KrAFT paper industrial bags containerboard corrugated packaging consumer packaging extrusion coatings The energy required for pulp production is based entirely on renewable biofuel, and the additives used in our pulping process are non-toxic and recoverable, up to 100%. We offer grades certified according to either the PEFC or the Fsc controlled Wood schemes. The ONE and ONE PLus single-ply bags provide significant reduction in packaging weight and volume. Terra Bag is the world s first industrial bag with a biodegradable film for humidity protection. Our ECO7 machine produces lightweight recycled containerboard and consumes 20% less steam, 30% less electricity and 40% less water than comparable machines. Production is fully FSC -certified. ECO line consisting of solutions designed to optimise material usage. FSC Recycled and FSC Mixed Sources product labelling already available at half of our operations. Pinch bottom bags, certified biodegradable, suitable for industrial composting. Plastic bags with reclosability features for extended product life. Consumer barrier films with up to 10 layers for extended shelf life. Lightweight pouches and printed laminates. Sanocoat antimicrobial solution. Sustainex extrusion-coated and extrusion-laminated packaging material. Paper-based products wood or fibre accredited by Fsc or PEFc.

A true story green claims green facts green range LighTweighT SoLuTionS conserving natural resources Travel light, save costs, reduce waste When ecology meets economy Green range lightweight solutions are designed to offer outstanding material value and an optimised product-to-packaging ratio. Our r&d centres have developed paper and packaging solutions making it possible to achieve up to 20% material savings. In addition to being lighter and easier to han dle, these highly cost-efficient solutions help diminish waste. Our approach to the conservation of natural resources, in particular virgin fibre and fresh water, includes optimising material consumption, ecoefficient production methods and the use of recycled materials up to 100%, with out compromising quality or safety. modulo Based on the idea of doing more with less, Modulo solutions use just the right amount of material to meet stackability, side protection, vertical compression resistance and brand communication requirements. As a result, their unit surface is up to 50% smaller than that of a regular American case and more than 15% smaller than that of comparable tray and hood designs. AdVAnTAge one Advantage OnE is an extensible, high-porosity sack kraft paper developed by our r&d centre to allow the production of industrial bags with a single ply. up to 20% lower grammages and the associated cost and waste reductions make Advantage OnE the preferred choice of many of the world s leading powdered goods producers.

extended product And SheLF LiFe SuSTAinAbLe ForeSTrY reducing waste by prolonging shelf life no life without forest reducing food waste has been deemed critical in several countries in order to meet international targets on climate change. At present, one-third of global food production is lost or wasted annually. * We have therefore developed a range of innovative packaging features, including antimicrobial barriers and reclosability, that extend the shelf life of your products. * source: united nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, 2011 The wood and fibre we purchase come from well-managed forests and are certified according to Fsc, PEFc or Fsc controlled Wood standards. For every tree felled in our 100% Fsc -certified russian and south African plantation forests, at least one more tree is planted. consequently, we plant some 30 million trees a year. SAnocoAT Mondi s antimicrobial sanocoat protects prod ucts by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi (candida albicans). sanocoat can extend the life of fresh food and increase the safety of baby and snack foods. It complies with the Eu food safety regulation (Ec) no. 1935/2004. ecolabels The number of our sites certified according to Fsc and/or PEFc standards is constantly growing, with already 30 certified sites worldwide. Ecolabels are a powerful tool for notifying consumers that the packaging material was responsibly sourced.

biodegradable products product FooTprinT measurement The end is a new beginning Biodegradability is an essential green credential: It facilitates a variety of end-of-life scenarios and reduces the burden on landfill sites. Our products that are labelled biodegradable have been optimised for industrial composting, so that waste is converted into valuable humus. you can t manage what you can t measure We measure the carbon footprint of all Green range products in compliance with acknowledged standards, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Life cycle Inventory and the cepi framework for the development of carbon footprints. This has enabled us to make significant progress in reducing our footprints. TerrA bag Mondi s industrial valve bag, Terra Bag, is a paper bag with an optional biodegradable film for better humidity protection. It meets the requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation according to En 13432. eco7 Mondi Świecie s co 2 emissions per tonne were decreased by more than 60% between 2003 and 2010 although total paper production almost doubled. EcO7, the mill s new lightweight recycled containerboard machine started up in 2009, played a substantial role in lowering co 2 emissions as well as reducing water and energy consumption.
