Chapter 1 7 Installation Component Database Client Database Server Cloud Database Requirement Oracle SQL*Net NET8 (32-bit only) NET9 NET10 NET11 Instant Client Oracle 8.1.7, 9i, 10g,11g R1 & R2 Oracle databases running on Amazon EC2 Virtualization Support Before installing SQL Optimizer, review the following for virtualization support: Application Virtualization Desktop Virtualization (VDI) Server Virtualization SQL Optimizer has been tested for Citrix support on Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 2) using the MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.0 and Citrix Presentation Server Clients 10.2. SQL Optimizer has been tested with Quest vworkspace 7.0 running on Windows XP Professional 32-bit (Service Pack 2). SQL Optimizer has been tested with the following: VMWare Server running on Windows XP Professional 32-bit (Service Pack 2) with Oracle 9i and 10g R2 Oracle VM 2.2.0 running on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2 64-bit with Oracle 10g R2 Oracle VM 2.2.0 running on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 Update 3 32-bit with Oracle 11g R1 Note SQL Optimizer may work in virtualization environments other than the ones in which it was tested.

Chapter 1 8 Installation Install SQL Optimizer To install SQL Optimizer 1 Run the SQL Optimizer installation program from the CD or the download file. 2 In the Welcome window, click Next. 3 In the License Agreement window, review and accept the license agreement. Click Next. 4 In the Install Location window, review the default installation directory and change if desired. Click Next. 5 In the Select the Products to Install window, select SQL Optimizer. Click Next. 6 In the Summary and Confirmation window, click Next. 7 When the installation completes, click Finish. The production version, the trial version, and the beta version of SQL Optimizer are installed independent of each other. Therefore, you can install or uninstall one without impacting the other. Note A known Oracle issue causes the connection to the database to fail when using a pre-11g client when the application path contains parentheses. In a 64-bit environment, the default directory for a 32-bit application is "C:\Program Files (x86)\". If you use the default directory for the installation of SQL Optimizer, you cannot connect to Oracle. Therefore, if using a pre-11g client, install SQL Optimizer into a directory path that does not contain parentheses.

Chapter 2 12 Configuration Access SQL Optimizer To run SQL Optimizer Select Start All Programs Quest Software Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle Quest SQL Optimzer version for Oracle. Review Option Settings Starting with version 7.0, SQL Optimizer uses a new Windows registry location and the whole registry structure has been revised. If you have been using SQL Tuning version 6.1.2. or earlier or Quest SQL Optimizer 3.8.5 or earlier you may want to review the Option settings and reselect your preferences. Data Files Directory Starting with version 7.5, each new version of SQL Optimizer can be installed in a new directory, so that you can have the current and previous versions installed. If installed separately, each new version will have its own data directory. The directory path now includes the version number in the path. C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Quest Software\Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle\version\ You will need to move your current data to this directory or change the default directories in the Options to continue using your current data in the new version. Copy Impact Analyzer Files If you have created a SQL Repository, Script files, and Analyzers in the Impact Analzer module in version 6.1.2, or earlier of SQL Tuning, and would like to use these in verison 7.0 or later, you must copy the files manually. A new Group feature has been added to the Impact Analyzer to allow you to create multiple SQL Repositories with corresponding Analyzers and Scripts according to the database connection. The SQL Repository, Analyzers, and Scripts from the previous version are placed in one Group in SQL Optimizer.

Chapter 2 13 Configuration To manually copy Impact Analyzer files 1 In Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle version 7.0 or later, create a Group in the Impact Analyzer. Do not open or add any SQL statements or Scripts to this new Group. If you do, they will be overwritten by the data in your previous SQL Repository and Scripts. 2 Locate the Analyzer Data directory where you want to store the files by clicking Options and selecting the Analyzer page. The default directory is: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Quest Software\Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle\Impact Analyzer Data. 3 In the previous version of SQL Tuning, locate the DATA directory where the files are stored. From the SQL Tuning Analyzer, select Files Preferences and look at the Directory Setup page. The default directory is: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Software\Quest Software\STA\DATA 4 In Windows Explorer, locate the folder for the Group that you just created. The name of the folder will be PCAnnnnnnnnn. Check the time and date for the one you just created. 5 From the SQL Tuning directory, C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Software\Quest Software\STA\DATA copy the following files and folders to the SQL Optimizer directory: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Quest Software\Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle\version\Impact Analyzer Data\PCAnnnnnnnnn Name Type Description ODRepRep.tvw File Analyzer tree ODRepScr.tvw File Script tree ODRepSQL.tvw File SQL Repository EDRepHdr.hdr File Header Information

Chapter 2 14 Configuration Name Type Description ODANALYZER Folder Folder with Analyzer files ODSCRIPT Folder Folder with Script files ODSQL Folder Folder with SQL Repository files Troubleshooting Silent Installation on Vista You cannot do a silent installation on a Windows Vista computer if the User Account Control (UAC) is set to ON, so you must set the UAC to OFF. To silently install SQsL Optimizer on Vista 1 Log on to Vista as an Admin user. 2 Select Start Control Panel User Accounts. 3 Select Turn User Account Control on or off. 4 Clear Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer. 5 Restart the computer. 6 Shift right-click on the desktop and select Open Command Window Here. 7 Enter the following commands: msiexec /i "path to msi file\questsqloptimizer_oracle_common.msi /qn msiexec /i "path to msi file\questsqloptimzer_oracle_version.msi" /qn 8 Repeat steps 1-3, and then select Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.

Chapter 2 15 Configuration Failing to Connect to Oracle A known Oracle issue causes the connection to the database to fail when using a pre- 11G client when the application path contains parentheses. Or, install an 11g client.
