Far and away, the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing. Theodore Roosevelt Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt- remembered for his foreign policy, corporate reforms and ecological preservation. During the Spanish-American war, Roosevelt lead a volunteer Calvary called the Rough Riders.

Roosevelt's progressive policies in New York ran him afoul of his own party, so Republican Party bosses plotted to quiet him by naming him on the McKinley ticket in the thankless post of vice president. Became the 26 th President of the U.S. in 1901 when who was assassinated??? Presidential Trivia- Roosevelt became the youngest man (42) to serve as president. Who was the youngest man to be ELECTED President?

Theodore Roosevelt s presidency is distinguished by his dedication to prosecuting monopolies under the Sherman Antitrust Act (1890). Square Deal- Roosevelt's domestic program, formed upon three basic ideas: conservation of natural resources, control of corporations, and consumer protection. Trust Busting- a way of making businesses more fair and competitive to the advantage of consumers, Roosevelt tried to regulate large corporations to behave responsible, and he filed lawsuits against corporations with trusts and monopolies.

Theodore Roosevelt is often considered the "conservationist president. After becoming president in 1901, Roosevelt used his authority to protect wildlife and public lands by creating the United States Forest Service (USFS) and establishing 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, 4 national game preserves, 5 national parks, and 18 national monuments by enabling the 1906 American Antiquities Act. During his presidency, Theodore Roosevelt protected approximately 230 million acres of public land.

Bull Moose Party- formally Progressive Party, U.S. dissident political faction that nominated former president Theodore Roosevelt as its candidate in the presidential election of 1912; Split the Republican vote and the Democratic representative won: Who was this??? Hint: WW http://www.biography.com/people/theodore-roosevelt- 9463424/videos/theodore-roosevelt-mini-biography- 46707779661

William Howard Taft- became president after Teddy Roosevelt. Was basically handpicked by Teddy to take over as President. Generally more conservative than Roosevelt, Taft also lacked his expansive view of presidential power, and was generally a more successful administrator than politician. Because Roosevelt was unhappy with the Taft presidency, he decided to come back and run for president again. Only served as President for 1 term. Became chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, his lifelong goal.

Election of 1912- The United States presidential election of 1912 was fought among three major candidates. Incumbent President William Howard Taft was renominated by the Republican Party with the support of the conservative wing of the party. After former President Theodore Roosevelt failed to receive the Republican nomination, he called his own convention and created the Progressive Party (nicknamed the "Bull Moose Party"). Woodrow Wilson ended up winning the election, capturing 435 electoral votes. Roosevelt had 88 & Taft had 8. Interesting fact: Roosevelt and Taft split up the Republican votes. Their vote totals combined (popular) would have surpassed W.W. (7 million vs. 6 million) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdl8rzfcaru

Woodrow Wilson- the 28th U.S. president, led America through World War I and crafted the Versailles Treaty's "Fourteen Points," the last of which was creating a League of Nations to ensure world peace. Wilson also created the Federal Reserve and supported the 19th Amendment, allowing women to vote. http://www.biography.com/people/woodrowwilson-9534272/videos/woodrow-wilson-healthcrisis-27938371788

Approved the Federal Reserve Act (1913), making loans more accessible to the average American He also further enforced anti-trust legislation in 1914 with the Clayton Antitrust Act, which supported labor unions, allowing for strikes, boycotts and peaceful picketing. His legacy of peace, social and financial reform, and statesmanship with integrity lives on at the many schools and programs named after him, most notably the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and his old alma mater, Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
