Socio 300 series installation and update manual 4940 Delemere Avenue Royal Oak, MI 48073 Phone 248-658-1800 Fax 248-658-1802 www.technoresearch.com

NOTE: This is a step by step process for the installation of the Socio Premium Software via the included software disc. You will find first time installation and upgrade to the Socio TIS software. If you need assistance or something is not installing properly, do not hesitate to call us to set up an installation appointment at 248-658-1800, or fill out a Technical Support ticket. Practical screenshots were made using a 2005 Ducati Monster 620ie. Please note This How To is intended for experienced, professional technicians who know that the diagnostic codes are a guide to the system(s) that is/are faulty and know the procedures to repair them. The information shown on screen is not the last word on the fault, and you should have the necessary repair manuals for the motorcycle at hand. WE ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU INCURR WHILE USING OUR TOOLS DUE TO LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.

For the set up of the Socio Premium software, testing and training, you will need the following: A computer, either a PC or laptop, with at least 2GB of RAM and a USB port (Windows only systems). If you have a Mac system, you will need an emulator or translator. Either a motorcycle with a good battery or one connected to a charger. This is to test communications and set up the COM Port between the PC/Laptop and BBAD module. If no bike is available, a quick run through the software will ensue, although no actual functions will be available since no motorbike is connected. If you would like to set a training appointment on another date, please contact us directly at sales@technoresearch.com or techsupport@technoresearch.com with your preferred date. We will show a standard installation. If you want to set it up in a different hard drive, it is up to you do it.

Insert the provided CD into your disc drive.

Click on the DVD Drive with Socio Premium software.

When the window opens, click Run setup.exe.

Click on OK if English is your preferred language, otherwise select from the drop down menu and click OK.

Installation Wizard has started. Click on Next.

Click on I accept the agreement and then on Next.

Write the name of the software s user and the shop s name. Click Next.

This is the default setting for saving the software if you wish to change the location, now is the time, but DO NOT change the file name. Click Next.

This is the name it will appear under in your programs list. Click Next.

Check one or both boxes to create the additional icons. If you do not want any additional icons, uncheck both boxes. Click Next. Installation will begin, first by installing the Set Up and then by double clicking on the icon in your desktop, will unzip the software and install it. After it finishes installing the shortcut icon will look like the one in the next page

Your desktop icon should look like this and should be in Location C/ or which ever location you selected. Double click to open the software.

This home screen will appear.

Select Motorbike Diagnosis.

Click on the i, or info button, to check for version, software release, and password.

This shows information regarding your system. We need the latest Autodiagnostics release. At this time it is 18.

Click the globe icon, or update button, to perform updates.

Click OK to quit the application and proceed with the update process.

This screen should automatically appear. Click on the F2 to start the download process. If this screen does not appear when you click OK, then follow these instructions:

For Windows 7: Click on Start Click on Control Panel

Click on System and Security.

Once into System and Security: Click on Change User Account Control Settings, under Action Center heading.

If your computer has a display like this, slide the bar to Never Notify. If your system shows an Off or On buttons, select OFF. Your system might ask you to Restart for changes to take effect. Open the software and click on updates see p19.

Once the setting changes are finished, re-open the Socio Premium Software and click on Update. This screen should automatically appear. Now, click on the F2 to start the download process.

You will get this screen informing you of the change in interface. Click F1 to continue. If you click on F2, you will not get an update.

This window shows your password and what system is authorized. Click on F1 to continue.

Check that the information is correct. If you need to make any changes, do so at this time. Click F1 to continue. Thanks to Moto Mecánica for providing us with these screenshots.

The system will now verify which updates need to be downloaded.

Updates to be downloaded in this case, the customer has full license. Click F1 to continue.

The system will now perform checks.

It will show the download of updates in progress. We recommend not performing any other tasks or searches on the internet: if bandwidth is compromised, the download might stop.

The download will finish and auto-un-compress the data.

List of available updates*: If you want to see what has been updated, double click on it and it will open a webpage in PDF format. Click on F1 to close. *This is an older screen shot, but the current screen looks the same.

To return to the diagnostic software, close this window. It will take you to the new home screen.

This is the new home screen, with the new TIS interface.

Click on the i to verify that you have downloaded the latest version and release. If the download failed, you must repeat the operation.

Now, to set the COM, click on the Setup icon (the crossed wrench and screwdriver).

Connect the BBAD module to the computer via its USB cable and make sure it s powered with a good battery[12v], but not connected to the diagnostic connector of the motorcycle. Follow the on-screen instructions if the procedure fails, make sure the BBAD module has a green & red LED on, and that it is connected directly to a USB port in your computer. If it fails again, repeat USB drivers installation process with the BBAD connected and powered up. Follow instruction on following pages for this process.

Since it is a new installation, we need to install the USB drivers again. Go to C\:tecno\Drivers_usb-ad

Double click on CDM2.04.06 to install the USB drivers.

That will prompt this screen. The system will automatically recognize if you have a 32 or 64 bit operation system.

The system comes set with the Metric system as default. You can change it to either UK or US measuring by clicking on Measurement System Type Metric, (in the Setup menu), and then select either UK or US.

In this screen we will fill out the shop s data, name, owner, telephone number, address, email, Tax code [optional], fax, etc. We do this by first clicking on Workshop data and then by double clicking in each of the fields to fill out.

After performing these changes, you will need to test the communication between the computer and the BBAD module. For this test, start by doing the following: Select Motorbike diagnosis.

Select XDEMO.

Select year or ALL YEAR.

Select the bike model.

Select ENGINE. Note: It will always be the same ECU, as this is a test module

Select the engine size.

Select the ECU.

Select SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS. The system will automatically start connecting with the BBAD module.

This screen shows how the specific software for selected ECU is being loaded.

If you get this message, go back to settings (page 39) and reset the COM.

Once communication has been established and you have repeated the previous steps, you will get this screen. You know communication is active because the square sine wave is moving. You will also get a flashing yellow triangle and a bell. This is to let you know there are faults stored in the ECU. This will happen when you connect to a motorcycle if there are faults.

Once you are finished setting up your system and testing, you are ready to work. In the following pages, we will show you how to connect to a motorcycle, choose tests, change from a diagnostics screen to a live chart, save the reports for printing and play them back for customers or a manager. The following screenshots were made with the motorcycle at hand. Dates might vary from screenshot to screenshot, but it is the same motorcycle and system. WE ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU INCURR WHILE USING OUR TOOLS DUE TO LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.

Select the type of vehicle you are going to work on. In our case, we will select Motorbike Diagnosis.

Select the brand you will be working on.

Select the year.

Select the model.

Select the sub-model of the motorcycle you are going to work on.

We want to know what cables we need to connect to the motorcycle, so we click on Connector and Cable Position to know which cables to use and where the diagnostic connector is located. **In cases where the system states the BATT cable, this cable MUST ALWAYS BE CONNECTED TO THE MOTORCYCLE S BATTERY. IF NOT, YOU WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE ECU** If you received a cable numbered D691, see next page for instructions

Select what system you want to work on.

The system will say with what ECU(s) the motorcycle is equipped.

After you have connected to the motorcycle, double click on the ECU model. This will load the specific software to work with the selected ECU. During this time, the system will ask you to turn on the Ignition key within a specific time window.

Now, the data of the selected ECU is being loaded. This is the data the ECU is reading live.

Here, the data being read by the ECU is displayed on your screen. Notice the engine has already been warmed up, and ambient temperature, atmospheric pressure, oil temperature and battery voltage* are being displayed. *Note: selected motorcycle has a Lithium Ion battery

Now, live data with the engine running is being displayed.

Change from a table to the Analysis chart by clicking on the magnifying glass icon.

In the Analysis chart we can see the relationship between all parameters of the engine to find a fault. Notice how RPM, Spark lead, Throttle angle and Injection time have increased. The readings on the left will not change until the graph passes by that point.

In order to save this test, click on SAVE.

You can always go and review your saved diagnoses or live charts by clicking on the Last vehicles folder icon.

From here you can select to see/print the diagnosis or the chart you saved by clicking on either of the two menu items shown.

By clicking on Latest diagnosis, you will get the diagnosis in text form.

You can select the diagnosis you need from the list of saved diagnoses available.

By clicking on Last Charts, you can select the chart you saved. You will be able to either print or play the saved chart.

Select from the list which test you want to play or print.

The system will confirm that you want to play the last test. Select the check mark symbol to continue.

By clicking on Play, the screen will play the saved test.

You can adjust your baseline to the desired position for faster analyzing.

Once you reach the desired point in the chart, you can print it by clicking on the Print icon.

The screen showing will be printed for your records and/or a customer s file.

If you need assistance or something is not installing properly, do not hesitate to call us to set up an installation appointment at 248-658-1800, or fill out a Technical Support ticket.
