Is Your Hip Causing BACK PAIN? Health & Fitness The Newsletter About Your Health And Caring For Your Body Do you find yourself getting up in the morning stiff and having to move slowly to alleviate it? Do you also find yourself having to stop and rest after standing awhile on your feet or walking a distance due to aches and pains? Whether you feel aches and pains occurring in your back, buttocks or thighs, your hip joints could be the culprit. The hip is an incredible joint in your body that has to rotate while taking the shock of your body weight. The hip joint is made up of your femur bone, which has a ball on the top and the socket of your pelvis. It is held in place by thick ligaments, which wrap around the joint, giving it stability while allowing it to move through a large range of motion. It s What You Don t Do If you sit frequently such as at a computer, watching TV or just being less active, your hip ligaments will tighten up over time. However, even if you are an active person, but don t stretch often, your hip ligaments can also become tighter. The bottom line is that your hips have to be flexible on a daily basis for your body to function normally. When the ligaments tighten around the hip joint, you lose normal range of motion in your hips. Their ability to absorb shock from every step decreases and that tremendous force is now transferred to your back. In addition, when you take a normal stride, since the hip joint is not moving correctly, it pulls excessively on the spine. This constant yanking causes inflammation and irritation to your back, thighs and buttocks. Finding The Cause Finding the true cause of your back pain is always our top priority. It is only then, that a good physical therapy program can be put together targeting these problem areas. Advanced hands-on therapy and specific exercises can dramatically improve your hip mobility and decrease the strain on your spine. Our experts at On the Mend On the Move Physical Therapy will help you achieve fast pain relief while learning how to improve your mobility and make your results last. Furthermore, we empower you with the right tools to prevent re-injury and take care of yourself. Don t delay and call us today to learn more about putting the spring back in your step!

Painful Knees? There s a Simple Answer Having achy, painful knees is no joke. It makes it very hard to get around, kneel, squat and pick up objects from the floor. Even simple tasks, such as walking up stairs becomes painful and irritating. However, there is often a simple solution to knee pain and with the right treatment, it can be alleviated quickly. Did you know that when jumping and squatting, your knees are subjected to almost 6 times your body weight? The knee is the 2nd most complicated joint in the body and takes a large daily dose of abuse. It has to move back and forth, side to side and spin, while maintaining strength and stability. All these motions have to occur to allow normal movement and distribute pressures during walking, running and squatting. When these normal movements are lost or limited, abnormal pressures build up in the knee causing pain. A Primary Cause Of Knee Pain The kneecap is often the primary troublemaker in causing knee pain. The kneecap tracks in a grove made up by your femur and rides up and down when you bend your knee. The kneecap is attached with thick tendons and ligaments. Often, with past sports injuries, weakness in the thigh muscles or general inactivity, the kneecap doesn t track just right. This causes rubbing and irritation underneath the kneecap. In addition, the normal circulation of joint fluid underneath the kneecap slows down if the kneecap is tight against the joint. The result is less lubrication of the knee joint producing increased friction, inflammation and pain. It s In The Way You Walk With an experienced eye, the way you walk can tell a lot about where your problem is coming from.
