SPIRITUAL GIFTS INVENTORY BRIGHTON ADVENTIST ACADEMY SHONDRA CIZEK 2

Philosophy Each child has been given special gifts and abilities. They are children of the King of the Universe. We are seeking to understand the talents that lie dormant in all of us. There are many spiritual gifts. 1 Corinthians 12:4 12 describes many different gifts that God gives to build the church. Ellen White says that God looks into the tiny seed that He Himself has formed, and sees wrapped within it the beautiful flower, the shrub or the lofty, wide spreading tree. So does He see the possibilities in every human being. We are here for a purpose. God has given us His plan for our life, and He desires us to reach the highest standard of development. (Ministry of Healing p.392) Use This Spiritual Gift Inventory was created to help each student discover and develop their God given gifts and talents. PreK Grade 4 teachers filled out the Inventory for each of their students. Grade 5 8 students complete their own version. Parents are invited to complete the Grade 5 8 version themselves, to help teachers learn more about their child(ren), and how to partner with parents in spiritual nurture. Students discuss their 3 best gifts with their teacher and parents. Then they are matched with mentors that have developed a particular gift and/or talent. Mentors are Christian adults in the community. The mentors have 3 mentoring sessions a year with their mentee. Teachers plan activities that engage each student with their mentor in the area of their gifts. For example, healthcare professionals teach students about the areas of the hospital and how they use their gifts in medical services. Other Brighton Adventist Academy mentor connections have included a music production group, a building group that built race cars, and a surveying group for our students that are highly analytical. At the end of the year, a celebration is planned to show the parents what the children have learned through their mentor program. This celebration is also a special time to thank the mentors for all they have done for each student. This program builds students and strengthens community connections.
