ABSTRACT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES GENERAL INFORMATION The American College of Gastroenterology invites abstracts from all member and non-member physicians, including gastroenterologists, internists, surgeons, hepatologists, radiologists, pediatricians, and GI fellows for its 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting. This meeting will be held October 18-21 at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii in conjunction with ACG s Annual Postgraduate Course on October 17 and 18. Abstracts should relate to clinical or research oriented work in the field of gastroenterology. Abstracts will not be considered if they have been previously published or accepted for presentation at other North American conferences. If the abstract is accepted, an author must commit to presenting the paper or poster at the ACG Annual Scientific Meeting. Failure to meet this obligation may result in the author being banned from future abstract submissions. Abstracts that are selected for oral presentation must be delivered by an author who speaks and understands English well enough to ensure satisfactory understanding by the audience. In accordance with ACG and ACCME guidelines, the presenting author may not be an employee of a commercial interest.* All correspondence will be conducted with the primary author of the abstract. It is assumed that if the abstract is accepted for presentation, the primary author will present. SUBMISSION DEADLINE The deadline for submission of abstracts is Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time. ACG s online abstract submission site is located at http://www.conferenceabstracts.com/acg2015.htm. This deadline will be strictly enforced and no exceptions will be made. No submissions, modifications, corrections or addition/deletion of authors will be accepted after June 8 so please proofread your abstract carefully prior to submission! Remember that your abstract will appear in a special supplement to the October 2015 issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology exactly as submitted. PAYMENT An administrative fee of $60 is required for each abstract submitted to cover administrative costs as well as the cost of printing in the special supplement to the October 2015 issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology. There will be no refunds and no exceptions made to this policy. This fee can be paid online with a credit card. Complete payment instructions are provided upon completion of the online abstract submission process. CONFLICT OF INTEREST (COI) DISCLOSURE If the research was partially or fully funded by a commercial interest,* a statement to that effect must be included with the abstract. Authors must complete the online COI disclosure forms, indicating details of support any authors may have received or affiliations any authors may have with a commercial interest.* Any author who refuses to disclose relevant financial relationships shall be disqualified from participation in this activity. PUBLICATION All abstracts submitted, regardless of whether or not they are selected for paper or poster presentation, will be published in a special supplement to the October 2015 issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology. ABSTRACT AWARDS Abstract awards are offered in a variety of areas for outstanding abstract submissions. See the back of this brochure for a full list. To be considered for the ACG/Naomi Nakao Gender-Based Research Award, ACG/Radhika Srinivasan Gender-Based Research Award, and ACG Obesity Award, you must indicate your desire to apply in the Awards section during online submission. PREPARATION OF ABSTRACTS All abstracts submitted must conform to the instructions below. All abstracts must be submitted online no abstracts will be accepted by mail, fax, e-mail or overnight service. You will find our online submission form and detailed instructions at http://www.conferenceabstracts.com/acg2015.htm. Title The title should be brief and clearly state the content of the paper. Authors You must associate an accurate email address for each author. List the presenting author s name first. Once you have added all authors, you can complete profile information for each author, including the location of the institution where the work was done. If the work was not performed by an institution, then list only the city and state. Authors are instructed to not include any of the following within the abstract body: direct or indirect reference to their institution(s), titles, positions, or institutional appointments. Body Your abstract must include the following: introduction, methods, results, discussion. Do not include any author names or institutional identifiers within the body of the abstract. Abstracts submitted as Clinical Vignettes/Case Studies should provide a report on the case(s). The size limit for the body of the abstract is 2500 characters, including spaces. Abbreviations Standard abbreviations may be used, i.e., RBC, gm, kg, mg, ml, % (percent), / (per). Images and Tables Images and tables can be uploaded and incorporated into the abstract. Required image format is JPG only, and minimum resolution is 300 dpi for photographic images, and 1,000 for line art and other graphics. All color images will be converted to grayscale for final publication. Drug Names Presentations must give a balanced view of therapeutic options. Use of generic names will contribute to this impartiality. If trade names are included, available trade names from several companies should be used, not just trade names from a single company. Generic names are typed in lower case and proprietary names are capitalized. * The ACCME defines a commercial interest as any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services, consumed by, or used on, patients. The ACCME does not consider providers of clinical service directly to patients to be commercial interests.

Categories You must designate one of the following categories below for each abstract submitted. It is extremely important that you properly categorize your abstract so that it will go to the appropriate review group. Abstracts with 5 or fewer patients must be submitted in the Clinical Vignettes/Case Reports category. Failure to submit an abstract in the appropriate category may result in the abstract not being considered for presentation at the meeting. A. Esophagus B. Stomach C. Biliary/Pancreas D. Small Intestine/Unclassified E. Liver F. Colon G. Clinical Vignettes/Case Reports (see additional information below) H. Outcomes Research (see additional information below) I. IBD J. Functional Bowel Disease K. Endoscopy L. Pediatrics M. Colorectal Cancer Prevention N. Endoscopy Video Forum (see additional information on next page) Outcomes Research Outcomes Research is identified as studies that include analyses of large databases, cost-effectiveness analyses, meta-analyses, quality assurance projects, systematic reviews, quality of life studies and/or studies including other special statistical analyses. These abstracts may also be submitted to a topic category where they may have greater relevance (i.e., a database study of GERD patients could also go to the Esophagus category). Clinical Vignettes/Case Reports The ACG recognizes that practicing clinicians, in both private and academic practice, have a wealth of patient related clinical data and experiences. Although they are not specifically engaged in research projects, their clinical observations are important learning points to share with others. For this reason, a separate abstract category for clinical vignettes/case reports has been developed. This category will permit clinical practitioners (either in full-time private practice or academics or fellows-in-training) to submit cases which have pertinent training points, or that amplify clinical experiences. Examples could include a series of interesting or challenging cases or a report illustrating an unusual case or variation on a disease that may differ from the traditional textbook information. Abstracts accepted in the Clinical Vignettes/Case Reports category will be presented as posters. This will allow an informal setting for meaningful discussions of the author s observations. We encourage practicing clinicians to consider submitting an abstract in this category. NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE/DECLINE AND PUBLICATION Notification of abstract acceptance as an oral or poster presentation will be sent via e-mail to the primary or presenting author during July 2015. Primary or presenting authors whose abstract has been accepted, must also register as an attendee for the ACG 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting. It is the responsibility of the primary or presenting author to notify other authors on the abstract that the abstract has been accepted for presentation. Please do not contact the ACG Office prior to this date to inquire about the status of your abstract. Annual Meeting registration is free for all ACG members as well as Residents and Trainees with a letter from their Program Director verifying status. See the ACG 2015 Registration Form for information on registration. All abstracts submitted, regardless of whether or not they are selected for paper or poster presentation, will be published in a special supplement to the October 2015 issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology. In addition, those abstracts submitted for the Annual Endoscopy Video Forum symposium will be evaluated for content and audiovisual quality. Audio narration, in English, must accompany the production. All videos selected for presentation during the 3 rd Annual Endoscopy Video Forum may also be posted on the ACG Education Universe website following the Annual Meeting. Abstracts will not be considered if they have been previously published or accepted for presentation at other North American conferences, including journals that publish abstract submissions from North American conferences. The College will create a QR code so individuals searching abstracts may watch the video. Per ACG and ACCME guidelines, no video may contain product specific endorsements, product trade names, or advertising. Commercial support for the production of the video may be acknowledged with a single sentence recognizing the company and/or organization providing the support. The video may not contain any copyrighted information: images, videos, photos, etc., without the express written consent from the original source of the copyrighted work. Please contact Liz Starnes at ACG (lstarnes@gi.org) for more information if any portion of your video is not the original work of the authors. Videos must be HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliant and cannot contain any patient information, physician names, medical record numbers, etc. Disclosures/Conflicts of Interest: All authors must complete the appropriate section of the online submission form, indicating details of support any authors may have received or affiliations any authors may have with commercial interests. Any author who refuses to disclose relevant financial relationships shall be disqualified from participation in this activity. Copyright must be assigned to the ACG by all authors. VIDEO FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS Please read all instructions carefully to ensure you are meeting submission requirements.
