FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES BUSINESS SCHOOL MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Qualification code: MMBT01 NQF Level 9 (180 credits) A duly completed application form, with the following supporting documents - A Bachelor Honours degree or a relevant NQF Level 8 degree from a recognised academic institution. A percentage mark of 50% or more in GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test), GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or GAT (General Aptitude Test from the TUT Business School). Results obtained in GMAT and GRE must not be older than three years. Marks from GMAT, GRE and GAT will be treated equally. A minimum of five years in a business or business-related environment including government, parastatals, academic and research institutions. All candidates for admission into the MBA programme will be required to take and pass a 3-hour comprehensive aptitude exam to be administered at TUT Business School. Students who have taken and passed the GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) or the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) in the past three years will be exempted from writing the 3-hour exam. A non-refundable fee is payable. A minimum of three years and a maximum of five years. d. Presentation: Block-mode classes and research. Classes are presented in trimesters in the form of compulsory lectures. Classes are held from 07:00 to 14:15 on Saturdays. e. Intake for the qualification: January. f. Dissertation: A proposal should be approved at the Faculty Committee for Postgraduate Studies before a student can register for the Dissertation. g. DOCTOR TECHNOLOGIAE: BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Qualification code: DTBA96 Important notification to new applicants: Before submitting an application for admission, applicants are advised to consult the University's website for possible new qualifications which are aligned with the newly-implemented Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. A Magister Technologiae: Business Administration, or a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a qualification at NQF Level 8 (old) or NQF Level 9 (new) in an appropriate management field. 1. A recognised Magister Technologiae conferred by a tertiary institution registered with the Department of Education. Provisionally registered institutions must be scrutinised for their standards. 2. Submission of a preliminary doctoral proposal that complies with the protocol set by the University and the Business School. 3. If the doctoral candidates have completed a full dissertation for their Magister Technologiae, items 4 and 5 do not apply. 4. An average of at least 60% for the class work and the Magister Technologiae dissertation. 5. At least 60% for the subject Research Methodology. 5.1 If the candidate did not obtain these marks, the following procedures may be followed: 5.1.1 The candidate has to complete the subjects Research Methodology and Statistics to be able to apply for admission to doctoral studies again. 5.1.2 On completion of the above subjects, the candidate has to sit for an oral examination to establish his/her abilities in both Research Methodology and Statistics. 5.1.3 The successful candidate may then be admitted to the next phase of selection, the doctoral proposal. 5.2 If the candidate did obtain at least 60% for the subject Research Methodology, but his/ her abilities are questionable, the procedure in 5.1.1 must be followed. 6. Admission to doctoral studies rests with the Faculty of Management Sciences and the Director of the Business School. A minimum of two years and a maximum of five years. d. Structure: This qualification consists of a research project that has to be recorded in the form of a thesis. Before the thesis is accepted, articles based on the research and approved by the supervisor should have been submitted to a peer-evaluated accredited journal and accepted for publication. A draft version of the article, with acknowledgement of receipt by the journal, should be submitted with the thesis. e. Presentation: Research. f. Any Baccalaureus Technologiae or any qualification at NQF Level 7 (old) or NQF Level 8 (new) with a research topic in the field of Management Sciences and Economics. A candidate must have passed Research Methodology at NQF Level 7 before registration or successfully completed Research Methodology in the first year of study if it was not included in a previous qualification. Admission is subject to selection. All the candidates must submit a proposed research proposal to the Business School. The proposal will be evaluated by a panel for admission to the qualification. Registration prior to the approval of a research proposal is provisional and will be made official only if the research proposal is approved by the Faculty Committee for Postgraduate Studies.
