A 6 week season celebrating film screenings What s it about? Doing better film clubs and getting more people to come along! Why? We want watching films to be more fun! And we want you to be a part of it! Scala Beyond & FILMCLUB We want everyone to be involved old and young, big and small! When is it? 2012 August September What do you have to do? Put on a special screening, then Share and have fun!! This is a guide which should help you put on an event that nobody will forget! October

Programming Naming your cinema Firstly be sure to choose an exciting theme and film for your event. Why not come up with a fun name for your film club? Theme - pick a theme that will attract your chosen audience. A theme is a style or topic which your event in centred around. For example; space, sports and pirates Film - choose a film that fits with your theme and that everyone will enjoy. You could use your club s wishlist. Extras - have you thought about showing a short film before the main film? Lots of cinemas and film clubs do this. You could put this on your own cinema sign! Why not make a cinema logo?

Marketing Seating Once you ve come up with some good ideas for the screening, now is the time to tell everyone and get them to come! Here are some ideas to let everyone know... Flyers - design your own flyers and ask your teacher to put them in the registers How can you arrange your school s furniture to make your screening really special? Special seating - beanbags, mats, carpets, benches? Special arrangements - could you arrange your seating in a different exciting way? Posters - design your own poster and be sure to post it all over school Assembly - ask your teacher to announce it in assembly Word of mouth - most importantly tell everyone you know about it! We heard of a great idea for a screening of Pirates They arranged the seating like a pirate ship!

Decoration & Costumes Food & Drink Decorating your cinema and asking your audience to dress up can make it feel really special Can you think of costumes that link with your theme or film? Do you currently have any food or drinks at your film screenings? Think about special food and drinks, that might fit with the film. Witches hats for a screening of The Witches For a screening of Up you could blow up lots of balloons! Or you could ask a teacher to dress up as Mrs Doubtfire to introduce the film! For a screening of ET, you could make lots of paper stars and hang them up Gangster costumes for Bugsy Malone like some exotic fruits before a screening of Rio?! Here s a great idea from Angley School in Kent for their screening of Alice in Wonderland... they baked special cakes a Mad Hatter s Tea Party!

Music Tickets Why not use music in a fun way during your screening? Music as people are coming in? How about live music? Think about people entering your cinema... Do you have a box office to give out tickets? Maybe you could design some special tickets? Could you learn a song in class? How about a sing-a-along? Can you think of any films? We thought of The Lion King, The Wizard of Oz, The Jungle Book, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Annie Have you got ushers to show people to their seats? Maybe they could wear costumes?

Introductions After the film We think introductions are a great idea! Why not stand up before the film starts and tell everyone about... yourself and why you chose the film. if you ve seen it - why do you like it? When the screening finishes have a discussion and find out what people thought You could follow this by; writing a review on the FILMCLUB website taking photos and making a display what s interesting about it? if you haven t seen it, what made you pick it? the film (but don t give the plot away!) Could you find out something interesting about the film? (Pssst... If you re nervous about speaking in front of lots of people, try practicing it first with your friends or family. That should help!) Don t forget to enter the big FILMCLUB competition! Think about what went well and what you could have done differently. That way your next screening will be even better!

Competition! We want to hear all about your screening and will be awarding great prizes to the best ideas and events Good Luck! Great prizes up for grabs Your event shared on the FILMCLUB website Your photos on the FILMCLUB Scala Hall of Fame Send in photos of your event and a short report up to support@filmclub.org
