National Education Management Information System NEMIS NEMIS started in 1990 by the financial and technical assistance of UNESCO Mandated to be the national repository of education data, act as the standard setting agency, establish linkages and develop capacity of Provinces/Regions. Since 1992 NEMIS is integral part of Academy of Educational Planning and Management and funded by Government. Functions of NEMIS Collection, integration, publication and dissemination of Pakistan Education Statistics since 1992 93. Coordination with provinces/regions through Coordination Committee and Technical Committee of NEMIS Provision of data to national and international agencies e.g. Economic Survey of Pakistan, UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) etc. Preparation of District Profiles, Time Series Analysis, and various other reports. EFA Review 2015 Ministry of Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education was responsible for preparing the National Report on EFA Review 2015 This task was given to the Academy of Educational Planning and Management to work closely with UNESCO and UNICEF Formation of EFA Review Working Group comprising representatives from Ministry of Education, National Education Management Information System (NEMIS), UNESCO and UNICEF, education experts, NGOs and CSOs. EFA Review 2015 EFA Review Report to be based on 8 individual provincial and area reports Nomination of a Focal and Deputy Focal person in Province/Area (Focal Person is Additional Secretary Education of 8 Provinces / Areas. Deputy Focal Person is Incharge EMIS of 8 Provinces / Areas) Technical Committee Workshops were held to consolidate and finalize National EMIS Database for the year 2012 13 A 3 days technical workshop of EMIS staff from all provinces and areas was held in January 2014 for calculation of EFA indicators NEMIS Office in the Academy of Education Planning and Management (AEPAM) served as the EFA Review Secretariat and offered technical inputs and logistic support to the process.
Pakistan Education Atlas First Pakistan Education Atlas Project launched in 2010 with collaboration of United Nations World Food Program 1st and 2nd versions of Atlas were launched in 2010 and 2012 Pakistan Education Atlas 2010 was limited to represent education data at district level only Latest version of Pakistan Education Atlas 2013 provides information up to Tehsil level In future system can be extended to Union Council (clusters of 6 8 villages) level and even up to individual education institution level

National Plan of Action to Accelerate Education Related MDGs (2013 16) National Plan of Action to accelerate the progress towards Education MDGs was prepared in 2013 with consultation of Provincial/Area Education Departments and EMISs; Specifically, the Plan aims to: Enhance enrolment of Out of School children in primary education; Increase retention at primary level and completion of primary education by all enrolled children; Improvement in quality of primary education.

Capacity Building Needs Six EFA Goals and various indicators were defined to measure the progress of countries towards achievement of six EFA Goals In the context of Pakistan, variety of issues and challenges were faced for understanding, calculation and analysis of EFA indicators. Some new indicators have been developed by UIS e.g. Mean Years of Schooling, Effective Transition Rate, Adjusted Net Enrolment Rate etc. Capacity Building of Education Personnel is need of the hour enabling them to grasp the detailed knowledge of these indicators with focus on disaggregated data in order to identify the vulnerable areas and groups.
Capacity Building Needs International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) is a framework developed by UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) for comparison of education statistics across countries. The previous implemented version ISCED 1997 is replaced by ISCED 2011. The Education Survey 2014 is the First international education survey based on ISCED 2011. The mappings of national education programmes according to ISCED 2011 as well as Revision of fields of education is required Needs thorough understanding of ISCED 2011 framework ISCED 2011 is substantially different from previous version A comprehensive training on this framework is required.
