2012 Salary Survey Results The New York State Association of School Business Officials March 2013 The salary information that follows is taken from the 2012 Salary Survey of the NYSASBO membership conducted in the Fall of 2012. NYSASBO has been conducting this survey since the late 1980 s. It is designed to assist school business officials in their understanding of the diversity of the position and compensation of the position across the state. We thank the nearly 500 NYSASBO members who took part in the survey. The average statewide salary for the chief school business official, across all titles, is $114,173. As the graph on the following page shows, this average represents a decrease from 2011 and 2010. Please note that the decrease may be due to the much larger sample size this year (499 respondents for 2012, as opposed to only 138 for 2011, and 267 for 2010) and may be a better representation of true average salaries of SBO s across the State. As expected, business officials who hold the position of Assistant earn the highest salary statewide ($153,129). Also as expected, the highest average salaries, across all positions, are earned in the school districts in the Lower Hudson Valley and on Long Island. The lowest salaries are in the western Southern Tier, in the North Country, and lower Central areas. The average salaries by title, level of education, and certification type are broken down by county regions in the charts that follow.
