ArcGIS 10.1 and 10.2.x: The Installation and Authorization User Guide This document outlines the steps needed to download, and authorize ArcGIS 10.1 and 10.2.x. Getting Started: Creating an Esri Account Downloading ArcGIS Retrieving Authorization Codes Creating a Provisioning File ArcGIS 10.1 and 10.2.x License Authorization: Authorizing ArcGIS Single Use Using an Authorization Code Authorizing ArcGIS Single Use with a Provisioning File Authorizing ArcGIS Concurrent Use with an Authorization Code Authorizing ArcGIS Concurrent Use with a Provisioning File ArcGIS License Manager 10.1 and 10.2.x Installation and Configuration: Setting up the ArcGIS License Manager Additional Resources 1

Getting Started Creating an Esri Account 1. The first step in the process of installing and authorizing ArcGIS is to ensure that you have an Esri Account. An Esri Account is required to download your software and retrieve the licenses that you are entitled to. If you do not already have an account, you can create one on the My Esri site under the Create an Account tab. My Esri is where you can manage all aspects of your relationship with Esri. My Esri consolidates functionality from several existing websites into a single experience, including Tech Support, Customer Care, and Training. 2. Fill in your contact information. 3. Upon clicking the Create an Account button you will be sent an email containing more details about how to finalize creating your Esri Account. 2

4. Once you retrieve your email, click on Activate Your Account. This will bring you to a page where you will be prompted to create a username and password and to enter information about your organization 3

4

5. After creating your login, you will be prompted to login. Use the same username and password created in the previous step.. 6. Once signed in, you will be directed to your My Esri Dashboard 5

Back to top 6

Downloading ArcGIS product(s) To gain organization access to My Esri, you will have click on the My Organization tab and Request Permissions. You can request to permissions for more than one organization. NOTE: You may automatically be linked to your organization if you were previously linked to your organization on the Customer Care Portal. You will have access to the same permissions on My Esri (Downloads, and Authorizations & Provisioning). The process for the request permissions is as follows: 1. Once you fill in the Request Permissions form and send the request, an email is sent to Esri Customer Service 2. Esri Customer Service reviews the request and will then send the request to Esri Canada Customer Care to review, and approve or deny. 3. An email notice is will be sent to you in the case of approval or denial. 7

Click on Connect to my organization to connect your Esri Account to your organization. Once your Esri Account has been setup with organization access, you will have 3 new tabs under My Organization; Overview, Products, and Support. 8

To install your ArcGIS software, you will need to download it through the Products tab 1. Click on the Products tab under My Organization 2. Next, proceed to Manage Downloads where you will be able to view the products that are available to you. The available downloadable products that are displayed are determined by the authorization codes issued to your customer number. For example, if you have an ArcGIS for Desktop Basic (formerly ArcView) Single Use authorization code, you will only be able to download ArcGIS Desktop files. 9

3. Select the product you wish to install on View Download and proceed to the download page Although there are many benefits to using the download method to obtain your ArcGIS software, we realize this is not always possible. If you would like to receive a physical installation media, please complete the order form found under Backup Media: 10

4. On the download page, you will be downloading the executable files that you need for your setup. Each product download page lists the file sizes and MD5 checksums to verify that the file is not corrupt. A checksum is a hexadecimal value that allows you to verify the successful completion of a download. You need a File Checksum Integrity Verifier (MD5 FCIV) utility to run against a file you downloaded. If the FCIV returns a value different than the provided checksum, the file may be corrupted or incomplete; in which case you should try downloading the file again. 5. Once you click on the Download button, the Esri Download Manager will be opened in a new browser window pop-up. Click on the Click to download your file now button to start downloading your product. Back to top 11

Retrieving an Authorization code It is important to note that there are two methods available for authorizing your Single Use and Concurrent Use Software: 1. Using an Authorization code; 2. Creating a provisioning file on the My Esri site: Creating a provisioning file allows you to authorize a number of licenses at once. Provisioning files are especially useful for an organization that has a large number of licenses and removes the need to duplicate the authorization process for each single use installation. A provisioning file is a text file that can be pre-populated with user information and authorization codes for the authorization process. For more information on Provisioning files, please read the following articles: o My Esri Authorization & Provisioning Help o Provisioning files o Creating a Provisioning File Authorization code: A three-letter, 9-digit number (ABC123456789) used by Esri to create an authorization file to enable your software. Every Concurrent Use, Single Use and server product, including their extensions or options, has a unique authorization code. Authorization codes are entered into the Software Authorization Wizard (along with your name, address, etc.) to authorize your software for use. Concurrent use authorization codes begin with EFL, Single Use - ESU, Single Use enterprise - EEA, and server - ECP. For Single Use You can obtain your ArcGIS Single Use product authorization code(s) from the My Esri site under the My Organization > > Products tab > Authorization section. 12

Click on the Product Name to view the authorization code. NOTE: All Single Use authorization codes start with ESU (Esri Single Use). In addition, if you click on the authorization code, you will be able to view a detailed history of activations, including de-authorization records, and if the authorization code was included with a provisioning file For Concurrent Use License After purchasing Esri Concurrent Use software products, you will receive an e-mail (similar to the one shown below) from Esri Canada Customer Care containing the authorization information for your purchased products: You will need this information to authorize licenses on your license server. You first need to run the License Manager installer and use ArcGIS License Server Administrator to authorize licenses before starting the license service. Please refer to the section Setting up the ArcGIS License Manager section of this document for detailed instructions on License Manager installation and configuration. NOTE: The process to authorize ArcGIS 10.1 Concurrent Use license with an authorization code is the same. You can obtain your ArcGIS Concurrent Use license authorization code(s) from the My Esri site under the My Organization > > Products tab > Authorization section. 13

Click on the Product Name to view the authorization code. NOTE: All Concurrent Use authorization codes start with EFL (Esri Floating License). In addition, if you click on the authorization code, you will be able to view a detailed history of activations, including deauthorization records, and if the authorization code was included with a provisioning file 14

Creating a Provisioning File Provisioning File: Combines a set of authorization codes into a single file that is sent to the user and can be uploaded directly into the Software Authorization Wizard. This can be created by the Administrator of the Enterprise Activation Server or via the My Esri Web site. For Single Use 1. First, you need to generate and download a Provisioning File. To do so go to the My Esri and click on the My Organization > Products > Provisioning: 2. Select your Provisioning options and click Apply 3. You will then be asked to allocate the number of licenses to be activated based on your entitled products. 15

4. Select desired product version (e.g. 10.1-10.2.2), the license type (i.e. Single Use) and the Product Type (i.e. Desktop) from the respective drop-down lists. Select a Core Product and any Extensions (if applicable) that you would like to include in the Provisioning File you are about to create. The next window will ask you to fill in your contact information. You can also choose to either download the provisioning file or have it e-mailed to you. Once you are satisfied with the selection, click on the Create File button. 16

5. Upon clicking the Create File button, instructions will be displayed for activating the provisioning file through the Software Authorization Wizard. Click on Download License File 17

For Concurrent Use Licenses 1. First, you need to generate and download a Provisioning File. To do so go to the My Esri site and click on the My Organization > Products > Provisioning : 2. Select your Provisioning options and click Apply 3. You will then be asked to allocate the number of licenses to be activated based on your entitled products. 18

4. Select desired product version (e.g. 10.1-10.2.2) and the license type (i.e. Concurrent Use) from the respective drop-down lists at the top right of the page. Specify the number of the Core Product and Extension (if applicable) licenses in the Allocate column that will be included in the Provisioning File you are about to create. The next window will ask you to fill in your contact information. You can also choose to either download the provisioning file or have it e-mailed to you. Once you are satisfied with the selection, click on the Create File button. 5. Upon clicking the Create File button, instructions will be displayed for activating the provisioning file through the Software Authorization Wizard. Click on Download License File Back to top 19

ArcGIS License Manager 10.1 and 10.2.x Installation and Configuration Setting up the ArcGIS License Manager NOTE: ArcGIS 10.2 License Manager Quick Start Guide is available from Esri Resource Center. In order to be able to authorize any ArcGIS Concurrent Use licenses you have to install and configure ArcGIS License Manager. You only need one ArcGIS license server per network to manage all your concurrent use ArcGIS 10.x and 9.x software products. Please note that the license files at version 9.x or earlier will not work with this new version of the ArcGIS License Manager 10.2.x. If you are currently using a License Manager released prior to ArcGIS 10.x, you will need to first uninstall it, setup the ArcGIS 10.2.x License Manager, and then authorize licenses on the upgraded license server using the new authorization information that you can request through My Esri (Products > Additional Licensing Forms >8.x & 9.x License File Request). If you are using ArcGIS License Manager 9.4 (Beta 1) or 10.x, you may use the ArcGIS 10.1 or 10.2.x Uninstall Utility to get rid of the previous License Manager release automatically. However, if you have any other ArcGIS products installed on your license manager server, they will be removed as well should you opt out to use the Uninstall Utility. Thus, if you need to uninstall the License Manager only do it manually through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) OR Programs & Features (Windows 7) prior to proceeding with the installation of the ArcGIS License Manager 10.1 or 10.2.x: Once you have uninstalled any previous releases of ArcGIS License Manager, you are ready to proceed with the ArcGIS License Manager setup. In order to do so: 1. Download the ArcGIS License Manager from the My Esri > Manage Downloads > View Download for the Desktop software you wish to install > click Download for the ArcGIS License Manager. 35

2. Once you have downloaded the executable, go to the location where you saved the extracted file and double-click on the ArcGIS_License_Manager_Windows_1022_140454.exe. NOTE: Make sure you have write access to your download directory location as well as your ArcGIS installation directory location, and that no one is accessing it. 36

3. Follow the instructions to install the license manager to the desired location. At the end of the installation, the ArcGIS License Server Administrator appears. 37

4. Proceed with the ArcGIS 10.1 and 10.2.x Concurrent Use product authorization process as outlined in the aforementioned sections of this document. If you choose to do this step at a later time, on Windows, you can access the ArcGIS License Server Administrator from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator. On UNIX/Linux, you can run License Server Administrator from the installation location using the following command: <installation_path>/arcgis/license10.2/lsadmin 5. Click Finish to close the wizard and return to License Server Administrator. Once you have authorized your ArcGIS Concurrent Use product(s) using the ArcGIS License Server Administrator, it is important to ensure that your client workstations have been configured properly to communicate with the license server and are able to consume software license(s). On the client workstation (i.e. any computer with ArcGIS core products installed): 1. Open your ArcGIS Administrator from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator. 2. Click on the Desktop folder on the left-hand side to select it. 3. Select an ArcGIS Concurrent Use product previously authorized on your license server that you are intended to use on this particular workstation. 4. If you are setting configuring your ArcGIS client for the first time, the License Manager will be set to Not_Set by default: 38

5. Click on Change button under the License Manager (for Concurrent Use software products) section. 39

6. Change License Manager dialog window will appear. Browse through the network to locate your license server OR manually type license server name or IP address, and click OK. In the case where you are configuring ArcGIS client installed on the same machine where the license manager resides (i.e. your license server), you may also use localhost instead of the server name or IP. 7. Your license server machine name should now appear under the License Manager section. 40

8. You are now ready to use your ArcGIS product(s). Additional Resources: o o o ArcGIS 10.2.x for Desktop Quick Start Guide ArcGIS 10.2.x License Manager Quick Start Guide License Manager Reference Guide Back to top 41
