Non-Res Tuition Waiver-AB 540 Any student, other than a nonimmigrant alien, who meets all of the following requirements, shall be exempt from paying non-resident tuition at California Community Colleges. Requirements The student must have attended a California High School for three (3) or more years. The student must have graduated from a California high school or attained the equivalent prior to the start of the term (i.e. diploma, passed the GED, or California High School Proficiency exam). An alien student who is without lawful immigration status must file an affidavit with the college stating that he/she has filed an application to legalize his or her immigration status, or will file an application as soon as he or she is eligible to do so. Students who have current nonimmigrant visas (e.g. F series student visas and B series visitor visas) are not eligible for this exemption. The student must file an AB 540 Exemption Form and attach an Offical High School Transcipt, including a signed affidavit with the college that indicates the student has met all applicable conditions described above. Student information obtained in this process is strictly confidential unless disclosure is required under law.non-resident students meeting the criteria will be exempted from paying non-resident tuition fees, but they will not be classified as California residents. College Connections The College Connections program, implemented by the WHS Counseling Dept., provides pre-identified senior students assistance with the transition between high school and local community colleges. Students are introduced to various aspects of the community college such as the individual admissions and matriculation processes, degree and certificate programs, honors programs, and support services on campus. The one-on-one and group guidance format guides students through completion of matriculation steps prior to deadlines in order to receive priority registration also known as the Freshman Advantage. The College Connections program also provides students with opportunities to explore other secondary options such as military and vocational training programs through the annual Specialty College and Career Fair. Students participating in the College Connection program experience small and large groups sessions to complete matriculation, and they are provided frequent reminders about upcoming events, workshops, and deadlines.
Transfer Connections A program implemented by the WHS Counseling Dept., designed for self-identified seniors who will be attending a California Community College with the intent to transfer to a 4 year university, or seniors who plan to use the community college option as a back-up plan should their goal of attending a four year university immediately after high school, not come to fruition. Group guidance in topics such as matriculation, IGETC, TAG, TAP, Degree with a Guarantee, and the Honors programs at our local community colleges are provided. As the first step in college level independence, students are given the information and expected to follow through with little intervention. Sources of support are identified but responsibility for follow-through lies with the students. Interested students will be offered the opportunity to sign up for the program in late Fall through the counseling office.
Apply Online!! Irvine Valley College- Application opens December 1, 2014 and closes May 15, 2015 for Priority Registration. Orange Coast College does not yet have their dates to apply online available. However, applications became available online in February last spring for fall 2014 grads. Check their website regularly!! Many other local community colleges do not yet have their application dates available for Fall 2015 Freshman. However, due to changes statewide, applications for many schools may be open as soon as December or as late as February. Check websites regularly! Certificate of Achievement Granted for the completion of a specified program, or specified courses. These state approved certificates acknowledge workplace competencies and job readiness. Specific course requirements for each certificate are listed with the program descriptions in CCC course catalogs. Students must complete all of the courses in the certificate program with grade of A, B, C, or P. A minimum of 12 units in the certificate program must be completed.
Certificate of Proficiency Certificates of proficiency are granted for the completion of a specified program, or specified courses, whose total requirement is less than 18 units. These locally approved certificates are designed to acknowledge basic workplace competencies and job readiness for students who are entering the workforce or upgrading their job skills. Specific course requirements for each certificate of proficiency are listed with the program descriptions in CCC course catalogs. Students must complete all of the courses in the certificate of proficiency program with grade of A, B, C, or P.
Associate in Arts/Science Degrees Associate in Arts/Science degrees with an area of emphasis are designed for students who want to earn a college degree with a focus, whether to achieve a personal or career goal or in preparation for transfer to the University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), or a private or out-of-state university. Those students who intend to earn an associate degree prior to transfer are advised to consult with the counseling faculty as early as possible to develop an appropriate educational plan to achieve their academic goals and degree and their transfer objectives. This is especially important because different transfer institutions may require specific general education patterns and lower-division courses to fulfill major requirements.
Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA -T) or Associate in Science for Transfer (AS -T) In order to earn one of these degrees, students must complete a minimum of 60 required semester units of CSU-transferable coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Students transferring to a CSU campus that does accept the AA-T or AS-T will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor s degree (unless the major is a designated high-unit major). This degree may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to university or college that is not part of the CSU system. Students should consult with a counselor when planning to complete the degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) Six UC campuses Davis Irvine Merced Riverside Santa Barbara Santa Cruz Offer guaranteed admission to California community college students who meet specific requirements. Interested students must meet campus-specific requirements to qualify for a UC TAG. By participating in a TAG program, you can ensure your admission to a specific UC campus, some of which offer an early review of your academic records, early admission notification, and specific guidance on major preparation and general education coursework.
TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) You can download a matrix of TAG program requirements at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/transfer/guarantee. Students should visit the Transfer Center or Counseling Center for information regarding specific criteria for each UC campus. September 1 30 one year prior to enrollment is the online application filing period for TAGs. To pursue a TAG, you must: Fill out an online TAG application and review it with your IVC counselor. (Download the TAG application at uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu.) Once your TAG is submitted and approved, fulfill all remaining coursework and GPA requirements designated in your TAG agreement. Apply for admission to UC during the appropriate filing period (see www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply). Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their IVC counselor prior to completing/submitting the TAG application.
Guaranteed Transfer UC/Honors Pathway UCLA TAP (Transfer Alliance Program) UCLATAP www.ucla.edu The Transfer Alliance Program is a collaboration between local community college Honors/Scholars Programs and the UCLA College of Letters and Science in conjunction with Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools. The program is designed to foster academic excellence at the community college level and to promote diversity and retention in the UCLA transfer population. Member community colleges provide enriched general education curricula emphasizing critical thinking, writing, and research through their Honors/Scholars programs. Students who have completed the Honors Program at IVC receive priority consideration for admission to the UCLA College of Letters and Science. Admitted TAP students are also eligible to apply for scholarships reserved for the TAP-certified students. The transfer rate to UCLA for students who complete the Honors Program is significantly higher than that of nonhonors students. Transfer rates for IVC Honors Program students generally run between 80 and 90% compared to 20 to 30% for nonhonors IVC students.
Guaranteed Transfer UC/Honors Pathway UCI Honors-to-Honors Transfer Agreement www.uci.edu UCI's "Honors to Honors" program is a special transfer agreement available for students from select community colleges, including Irvine Valley College. The "Honors to Honors" program offers high-performing students who complete the IVC Honors Program several advantages including priority admission review, automatic admission to the UCI Campuswide Honors Program, guaranteed housing, individual advising, faculty mentoring for a Senior Thesis, and priority consideration for Regents Scholarships. Eligibility requirements are subject to change. Students also have access to special honors study rooms in the library and extended library book lending privileges. Students who complete the IVC Honors Program but are not eligible for the UCI's "Honors to Honors" program are also given special consideration in the evaluation of their transfer application and may be eligible for admission to UCI's Campus wide Honors Program.
Priority Registration New regulations this past year will continue to reward students who are making progress toward their academic and career goals, while also granting priority registration status to some first-time students. Each campus does differ however regarding who will receive PRIORITY. For example, IVC offered Priority to all seniors who completed matriculation prior to May 15 th. OCC offered priority to first time freshman only after continuing and returning students registered. Many high school students opted to enroll in Early Start at OCC, taking courses in the spring at OCC, to obtain returning student status. Irvine Valley College s Priority Registration deadline is May 15. Students MUST check deadlines at EACH community college they plan to apply to ensure they are meeting required application deadlines.
Priority Registration (Cont) First-time students who complete the Student Success and Support Program (Matriculation) steps and qualify for priority registration will better position themselves to experience a successful first semester By registering early, students will also have a better chance of enrolling in the key courses they need to fulfill their general education requirements, satisfy course prerequisites and quickly complete their degree and/or transfer to a four-year school.

The Assessment The score earned on the Math/English Assessment Test will be used to determine the first Math /English course you will take at the community college. Math and English Assessment Sessions last approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. ESL Assessment Session lasts approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Students need to review the material of their last Math/English courses before taking the test to make sure they are placed at the correct level. Placement in a lower level will increase the number of semesters they will need to achieve their goals. Most colleges offer review materials for the placements tests. It is critical students review these, if available. At IVC, they are located online.
Retest Policy You are permitted to take the Math Assessment every 3 months and the English and English as a Second Language Assessment every 6 months. Writing Sample Once you receive a recommended initial placement into a basic skills writing course, and you wish to be placed into a higher level course you may do so by providing a Writing Sample. Complete the Request for Prerequisite Clearance and schedule an appointment for an Assessment Test. Inform the Matriculation Specialist you are seeking a higher placement by providing a Writing Sample.
IVC Fast Fridays Starting in February, IVC will continue the implementation of this program for freshman planning to attend their first semester of college in fall 2015.
