It consists of the basic Player that allows you to save to a file. It also includes the Manager Guardian program, which allows you to save to a file (then to CD if desired), and other formats such as MP3, where Access has been purchased. The 5.6 Player and related programs will work with all FTR audio, regardless of which version or appliance it was created on, 2X, 5.X, Reporter Deck, or Touch. CREATE AN EXACT COPY OF THE ENTIRE CD 1. Get desired original CD from storage. 2. Open Record Now, Roxio, or other CD burner software you have available. 3. Load original CD into computer s CD drive. 4. Select Copy Disc, then click Burn. 5. The program will copy the original to a temporary file. 6. The program will prompt you to insert a blank CD. Once the blank CD is inserted the burn will continue until complete. CREAT A SEGMENT OF FTR FROM AN ORIGINAL FTR CD (For Judges and Lawyers with PCs and Electronic Transmission Direct to Transcription Company) 1. Open FTR Player 2. Load the original CD into the CD tray, close any pop ups. 3. Click the open button. 4. Find your CD drive in the list and expand the drive to select the audio and click open. 5. Select the portion of the audio that you wish to copy, by grabbing and moving the blue triangles, (or by entering the start and end times, then click enter to set the times and the red boxes will stop flashing). You should listen to beginning and end to assure you have desired segment. 6. Click on the save button. 7. The Save Copy To screen appears. Save the audio to a file designated for copying FTR Copy. 8. Then click Save. The audio will be saved in the FTR Copy file on the desk top where you can then add Log Notes and any other documentation desired for CD or transmittal. EITHER, TRANSMIT OVER THE INTERNET: 9. Follow the transmission instructions from the transcription company. Once the transmission has been completed successfully, delete all files from the FTR Copy file folder so it is clear for the next use. OR, CREATE A CD: 10. Open Roxio (or Record Now) a) Click Create a Data Disc or Data and Backup then Data Disc again until the red burn button appears at the lower right hand corner. b) Drag and drop the FTR Copy file folder into the burning program window. (You can also drag and drop the Player for distribution file into the burning program to give the Judge or Lawyer the FTR Player program.) c) Click the burn button. d) Insert blank CD into CD burner tray. e) Once burning process is complete click Done. f) Close the program. It will ask if you want to save Project (to be able to make additional CDs) Click NO and the program will close. 11. Once the CD is created successfully, delete all files from the FTR Copy file folder so it is clear for the next use. 4/15/13 Page 2
CREATING an MP3 AUDIO CD FROM LOCAL MEMORY (Requires FTR ACCESS program) 1. Insert a blank CD into your burner, close any pop-ups 2. Open FTR Player 3. Click the open button. 4. Select FTR Recordings and Log Sheets from the list, open and load the desired audio. 5. Select the portion of the audio that you wish to copy, by grabbing and moving the blue triangles, (or by entering the start and end times then click enter to set the times and the red boxes will stop flashing). You should listen to beginning and end to assure you have the desired segment. 6. Click on the save button. 7. The Save Copy To window appears. At the bottom, click the Start The Record Manager button. 8. The Record Manager appears. Click Reformat then click Next. 9. In the Select Content panel it asks you to Please select the content you wish to export etc. To do this, you have to click the little arrow, next to Recordings to expand it, then click the box next to the audio location, date and time line. A red checkmark will appear. Then click Next. 4/15/13 Page 3
10. Use the New Format drop down arrow to select MP3. 11. Make sure the Destination is your CD burner, or use Browse to select it. Click Next. 12. A Confirm screen appears, click Next. 13. A Progress screen will appear and show a progress percentage.. 4/15/13 Page 4
14. As soon as Processing has been completed, the program will burn and verify a CD. 15. Find your CD PLAYER in the list and expand the drive to select the audio and click open. 6. CREATING MP3 AUDIO FROM AN FTR CD (when you have only a CD Burner) Requires FTR ACCESS program 1. Open FTR Player 2. Load the original CD into the CD tray, close any pop ups. 3. Click the open button. 4. Find your CD drive in the list and expand the drive to select the audio and click open. 5. Select the portion of the audio that you wish to copy, by grabbing and moving the blue triangles, (or by entering the start and end times then click enter to set the times and the red boxes will stop flashing). You should listen to the beginning and end to assure that you have the desired segment. 6. Click on the save button. 7. The Save Copy To window appears. 10. Use the New Format drop down arrow to select MP3. 11. Make sure the destination is the FTR Copy file folder on your desktop or use Browse to select it. Then Click Next. 12. A Confirm window will show the files ready to be formatted. Click Next. 13. The Progress window will show the files being reformatted and saved. 4/15/13 Page 9
14. Click Finish when done. The MP3 formatted audio will be in the FTR Copy file on the desk top. 15. Use the computer s CD burning software, Roxio (or Record Now), to make a CD from the FTR Copy file folder. 16. Open Roxio (or Record Now) a) Click Create a Data Disc or Data and Backup then Data Disc again until the red burn button appears at the lower right hand corner. b) Drag and drop the FTR Copy file folder into the burning program window. c) Click the burn button. d) Insert blank CD into CD burner tray. e) Once burning process is complete, click Done. f) Close the program. It will ask you if you want to save Project (to be able to make additional CD). CREATING AUDIO FOR PLAYING ON A STANDARD CD PLAYER (Although this system can convert FTR 4 channel, to audio that s playable on a standard CD player, please be aware that the audio will be expanded. A standard audio CD has an 80 minute capacity. If you were to convert 8 hours of FTR compressed audio it would result in 6 CDs, and a significant amount of time to produce them.) 1. Open FTR Player 2. Load the original CD into the CD tray, close any pop ups. 3. Click the open button. 4. Find your CD drive in the list and expand the drive to select the audio and click open. 5. Select the portion of the audio that you wish to copy, by grabbing and moving the blue triangles, (or by entering the start and end times then click enter to set the times and the red boxes will stop flashing). 6. Click on the save button. 7. The Save Copy To window appears. At the bottom, click the Start The Record Manager button. 8. The Record Manager window appears. Click Make an Audio CD then click Next. 9. It asks you to select the content you wish to export and then click Next. To do this, you have to click the little arrow to expand, then click the box next to the audio location, date and time line. Then click Next. 10. Make sure your CD burner drive is selected, if not use the drop down to select it. Then click Next. 4/15/13 Page 11
11. IGNORE the dialog in the next screen where it tells you to put a blank CD in now. This instruction assumes you have two drives in your computer. JUST CLICK NEXT. The audio will be saved to a temporary file in your computer. Once that process is complete, another screen will appear, There is not a blank disc in the drive. Please insert a blank disc and click Retry. OR if an ERROR window appears Incorrect function. (0x80070001) click OK, then continue to step 12. With either of these warnings NEVER cancel or close the project, if you do the temporary files may get stuck in the computer and cause the copy feature to be unuseable. If this happens you should call K & S for resolution. 12. Insert blank CD now, close any pop ups. Then click Retry. 13. It will prepare the CD, then write the.wav files (standard audio) to the CD, then finalize, all automatically. If multiple CDs are required, you will be prompted to insert them when needed. Temporary files will be automatically deleted when done. Click Finish when done. 4/15/13 Page 12
