English and Mathematics Strategy 1. Mission To deliver programmes of study that provide our young students with the knowledge, practical and transferable skills to progress to further study, Higher and Employment. 2. Vision To ensure that all young people engaged by the College progress to a positive destination 3. Current Situation North Lindsey College has approximately 1800 16-19 year old students on a range of vocational and academic programmes ranging from entry level to level 3. There are an additional 350 14-16 on vocational programmes through links with feeder schools. This provision covers most Sector Skills Areas and there are good progression routes to Higher and Apprenticeships. Most curriculum areas are self-assessed as good or better, however a minority of areas are in need to improvement. 4. External Context The introduction of the 16-19 study programme will change the curriculum model within the further education sector. One of the main objectives is to raise standards in post 16 English and Mathematics and enable students without a GCSE grade C and above to work towards achievement of these subjects. The increase expectations for tutors to deliver English and Mathematics and support embedding in vocational areas will impact on the training and development requirements for staff. 5.
