21st KOI WORLD CUP & TRAINING CAMP 20-26 July 2015 Istanbul - Turkey

Dear Friends, 21st KOBE OSAKA INTERNATIONAL WORLD CUP & TRAINING CAMP 2015 The past years have been difficult for all of us; job losses, insecurity, civil war, terrorism, political division and so on. Many of our members were unable to get visas for events held in Europe and many of our European members had difficulty in travelling to the Far East due to transportation costs. In one way or another, these conditions made it very difficult to find a suitable host for our annual KOI World Cup & Training Camp. I am happy to be able to tell you that we have found a very capable and experienced organiser. The hosting of this prestigious KOI World Cup will be entrusted to Ercument Tasdemir, a WKF Referee and a most dedicated and experienced organiser of hugely successful international events in Turkey in recent years. The Turkish Government has a very open policy as regards visas which in most cases can be obtained on arrival and all our members will now be able to participate. It is the stated goal of KOI to provide the opportunity for people of all ages to have access to safe, high level international competition and to be able to attend seminars designed to enhance their understanding of karate-do and to make new friends. Our competitors will have the chance to compete under the supervision of experienced, honest and competent referees and we intend to ensure that this championship will be a memorable one which will live up to all our ideals in every way. Not only that, but our young people will be able to meet and test their skills against others, in the best way possible, in peace and friendship. This promises to be a major event with many more categories than we have ever had in recent years, including for the first time in KOI, categories for those with disabilities. This is a great opportunity to have a wonderful holiday in a very reasonably priced hotel and a good time with karate friends; I look forward to seeing you in Istanbul in July. Yours sincerely Tommy Morris KOI President

Have you got only a short period of time to visit this beautiful city? No need to worry- there are choices of tasting Istanbul even in a short period of time. Daily excursions available throughout the year will give you the chance to visit the most important historical sites, museums, famous Grand Bazaar and surroundings. Excursions departing from hotels of the port present to you the monuments in the historical peninsula in half-day tours. You get a chance to visit Ayasofya Museum, the Mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent, the Mosque of Sultan Ahmet (also known as Blue Mosque), Hippodrome and Topkapı Palace Museum. You may also participate in tours taking you on the Bosphorus or to the Asian side. Then, you will go back home with unforgettable and beautiful memories. The Roman fortifications, Chora (Kariye) Museum renowned for its late Byzantine period frescoes and mosaics, the Galata Tower for a splendid panorama of the city, Dolmabahçe Palace on the Bosphorus - the richest palace museum in the world, Archaeological Museums, Turkish-Islamic Arts Museum, the Spice Bazaar and others require 3 to 4 days time. And cruising Bosphorus A ferry ride on the Bosphorus will be amongst the most unforgettable. You may be carried away with the unparalleled beauty of the yalı mansions lining along the coasts and from which many ancient love stories reflect on the water, luxurious modern villas of the 20th century, the palaces of Dolmabahçe, Beylerbeyi and Göksu, Rumeli and Anadolu Fortresses, remnants of the fishing villages, restaurants, tea gardens, and night clubs. In the same day you can cool off in the waters of the Black Sea and then relax with a cup of coffee at a tea garden on the quiet coasts of Local Organiser & Reservations : Ercument TASDEMIR Mobile +90 533 632 18 52 turkishkarate@gmail.com KOI Organising Commitee : tm@worldkarate.net office@kobe-osaka.com +44 1555 770 233

Failure to be at registration on time will mean non participation in the World Cup. 6. All competitors must participate in the Training Camp where they will be briefed on the rules concerning contact and the latest tactics. 7. The competitor's age must be the same as the age for the category entered on the day (or weekend) of the competition. 8. Each country or region may enter any number of teams in each category, and any number of individuals. 9. All Kumite contestants must wear gum shields and must supply their own red and blue mitts and belts. Females should wear breast protectors. Shin and foot protection is compulsory but need not be of WKF approved type so long as it is safe and within reasonable dimensions. 10. All competitors and participants are responsible for providing their own medical insurance. 11. The rules are the rules of the World Karate Federation, with some exceptions as to weights, ages and categories. Preliminary rounds may be conducted according to the "Mirror" or Two Judge system. For children the rules will be those of Kobe Osaka International. (Absolutely no face contact allowed). You can download a copy from www.worldkarate.net. 12. Each participating country or group entered must supply referees or judges to work in the World Cup. The actual number required is dependent on the size of the delegation as follows; Up to 10 competitors- 2 referees or judges. More than 10 and up to 20 competitors - 3 referees or judges. More than 20 competitors - 4 referees or judges 13. If officials do not have a World Karate Federation, Continental, or KOI qualification, they must attend the Referee Course and take the examination. Failure to comply may mean that their competitors will be unable to participate. 14. Head scarves are permitted as given in the WKF Regulations. KOI prefers the following; competitors and those wearing karate-gi should wear a plain, un-patterned, white scarf. Referees, judges and officials and those wearing blazers should have a plain,un-patterned, black (or navy blue) scarf. 15. We do not normally allow spectators in the training camp but this can be hard on parents who have young children attending the course so if space permits we will allow parents to purchase a ticket which will allow them entry on the understanding that no filming is allowed (non-professional still cameras are okay). 16. The person or persons registering and organising the entries for the group's competitors confirms that all competitors, parents and guardians, have been advised of the risks of karate competition and training and that they fully realise, understand, and accept those risks, and absolve Kobe Osaka International, its employees, volunteers and servants from any liablity whatsoever.
