Suddenly, one room is your whole house. Below is a list of suggested items to bring with you to college. Be sure to get in touch with your roommate once you receive your housing letter in late July so you can get to know your roommate and plan for who is bringing what for your room. Towels/washcloths Pictures Iron/ironing board Stamps Plants Key chain Camera/film Television Dishes/silverware Computer Dish soap Broom/electric broom Surge protector and/or a multi-power strip with circuit breaker An adequate wardrobe - clothing for a wide range of temperatures Please Do Not Bring (The Short List): These things are not permitted in residence: Refrigerator larger than 4.5 cubic feet Air conditioner Incense Electric/Portable heater Heat lamp Pets (of any kind) Halogen bulbs (including halogen/octopus lamps) Candles Extension cords Surge Protectors unless purchased from this approved site: http://www.grainger.com/grainger/power- FIRST-Surge-Protector-6CYY6 Resistance appliances (except irons, hairdryers and vaporizers/humidifiers which must be equipped with an automatic shut-off feature) Loft or other structure-altering item (including anything used to raise furniture off the floor) Personally owned furniture of the types already provided by the university Drapes (unless they are flame resistant according to NYS fire code and you can prove it) Personal microwaves/convection ovens These restrictions are solely for the health, safety and security of all students. Please Remember: Closet and storage space is limited and may have to be shared with other students. High efficiency washers and dryers are available on campus in all residence halls. Cost of use is included in your residence hall room. Cooking appliances such as toasters, hot plates, popcorn poppers, and toaster ovens are permitted, but can be used only in designated kitchenette areas. University-owned microwaves are available in the residence halls for use by students. Practice or performance on musical instruments must not disturb other residents. The use of electronically amplified or percussion musical instruments is prohibited in rooms or common areas.
