Published on April 10, OAS Kookmin University Global Entrepreneurship Boot Camp Scholarship Program (OAS KGEB Scholarship Program) OAS Partnerships Program for Education and Training (PAEC) The Organization of American States (OAS), through the Department of Human Development and Education (DHDE) and Kookmin University (KMU), through the OAS Partnerships Program for Education and Training (PAEC), are offering scholarships to qualified candidates of the Americas to participate in a 7 week Entrepreneurship Boot Camp. The main goal of the Program is to help participants develop a business idea in order to create a company. PROGRAM: Global Entrepreneurship Boot Camp MODALITY: Onsite in Seoul, South Korea LANGUAGE: English DURATION: 7 weeks and an optional additional 8 th week for cultural immersion purposes DEADLINE: May 21 st, Four scholarships including 100% tuition, accommodation, meals, camp expenses, health insurance and airplane ticket. Published on April 10, ABOUT KOOKMIN UNIVERSITY AND THE OAS The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States GS/OAS is the central and permanent organ of the Organization of American States (OAS). Through its Department of Human Development and Education (DHDE), GS/OAS supports OAS member states in creating policies and executing programs that promote human capacity development at all educational levels. By enabling formative opportunities to citizens, DHDE strengthens democratic values and security under the framework of regional integration. Applicant s profile Undergraduate or graduate students, and/or recent graduates from any discipline with excellent verbal skills in English from diverse parts of the Americas. (Note: these scholarships do not include airplane tickets). 1.3 If the participant s entrepreneurial ideas are successful and they are able to register their own companies in South Korea, they will receive an additional USD$5,000 seed fund for their project. 1.4 Certification of completion of the Program. 1.5 If after the seven weeks of the Boot Camp the awardee wishes to remain an additional 8 th week for a cultural immersion experience, the scholarship will cover all accommodation and meals expenses. 4 2. Financial Responsibilities of Awardees: 2.1 For full scholarships, awardees will be responsible for their visa and immigration fees (if applicable), personal expenses, and any other costs not covered by the scholarship. For general

Published on April 10, scholarships, in addition to the previous responsibilities, students will also be responsible for covering their airplane ticket. 2.2 These above expenses shall be the sole and exclusive responsibility of the scholarship recipients. 3. Scholarship Eligibility Requirements: 3.1 Be citizens and/or permanent legal residents of any OAS member state. 3.2 Participants may be current undergraduate or graduate students of accredited or formally approved higher institutions from OAS Member States, from any field of study. They can also be recent graduates from any of these higher education levels. 3.3 Given the average age of participants in the Kookmin Global Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, applicant s age limit is 29 years old. 3.4 Applicants must be literate in information technologies. They must prove they possess at least a minimum knowledge and ability to utilize computers efficiently (e.g.: using a word processor, computer applications, worksheets, web tools, social media, etc.) through a recommendation letter from a professor. 3.5 Applicants must possess an excellent level of verbal English skills. If not native speakers, this must be proven through an official written document such as a transcript verifying studies in an Englishspeaking or English bilingual institution; a TOEFL or IELTS score or a similar standardized test score (not older than two years); or any other proof of English language training. 3.6 OAS staff, individuals who maintain employment contracts with the OAS, the staff of Permanent Missions to the OAS and their immediate relatives are not eligible to receive OAS KGEB scholarships. 3.7 No type of employment or commercial relationship shall be established between the OAS or KMU and the OAS KGEB scholarship recipients. Similarly, the OAS and KMU shall not assume any type of liability, whether civil, contractual or non contractual, during the entire scholarship period. 4. Scholarship Application Process: STEP 1 Gather the following documents to be included with the completed OAS KGEB scholarship application form, in the following order: 1. Copy of government issued identification document; 5

Published on April 10, 2. Curriculum Vitae or Resume, without attachments (e.g.: certificates or diplomas); 3. Two letters of recommendation: One, from a university professor, must certify the applicant s competency in the use of information technologies. The other, from a professor or employer, must describe the applicant s skills, accomplishments, and personality with regards to entrepreneurship. The letter should at least include: contact information and signature from the professor (if he/she no longer works at the same university, it must clarify the situation in which he/she interacted with the applicant) and date. (Recommendation letters could be written in english or spanish) 4. Copy of the academic record or transcript of current or finished study program, including details on grades and courses. 5. English proficiency support document if not native speakers. Students whose native language is not English will be required to submit one of the following proof of English proficiency: I. An official transcript verifying completion of studies in an English speaking or English bilingual institution; OR II. a TOEFL or IELTS score or a similar standardized test score (not older than two years); OR III. any other proof of English language training. NOTE: Applicants must ensure that all information provided as part of the OAS Scholarship Application is accurate, true and correct. While documents are sent electronically, applicants must be able to present physical and original copies of these documents if requested. STEP 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5 Draft two (2) essays with a maximum of 350 words each, answering the following questions: Summary of a potential business idea to be developed in the KGEB Program. The OAS requires that scholarships recipients return to their country of citizenship or legal residency upon completion of the Program. Please explain how you intend to apply the acquired knowledge and experience to the development of your country or region. Complete and send the OAS KGEB Application Form, along with all the above indicated documents (including the essays), attached in one single PDF file. The form is available online here: link. Please bear in mind that the deadline to apply is May 21 st,. Between May 22 nd and June 3 rd,, the OAS will be evaluating and selecting applicants. During this period, certain candidates will be requested to have an online interview with an OAS representative. Selected applicants will be announced publically on June 8 th, at www.oas.org/scholarships and through KMU s communication channels. 6

Only selected candidates will be contacted via e mail with their official scholarship offer and further instructions on next steps. Awardees prepare for the beginning of the program including following any additional registration steps, travels, etc. 5. Scholarship Selection Criteria Merits and overall credentials of the candidate, including his/her academic and professional background; Geographical distribution of the applicants, taking into account the greater needs of Member States, according to their Human Development Index; Applicants whose proposals portray the highest potential for impact upon return to their countries of origin; and Gender diversity. 6. Duties and Responsibilities of the Awardees: 6.1 The scholarship will be officially awarded only after selected awardees have signed the OAS/KGEB Acceptance Form, in which they formally accept the scholarship offer and agree to its terms and conditions. This form is equivalent to a scholarship contract. 6.2 Awardees must refrain from activities that are inconsistent with the status of an OAS scholarship recipient, abiding by the regulations stated in this Acceptance Form. 6.3 Meet all academic guidelines and requirements for permanence requested by KMU. 6.4 Comply with the provisions mentioned above under Financial Responsibility of Awardees. 6.5 The scholarship could be declined by the awardee one week after the official announcement of the results without any financial penalty. However, if the awardee declines after June 29 th,, the OAS and KMU reserve their right to request full or partial reimbursement of the funds spent on the awardee until the day of his or her declination. 6.6 If required, awardees should make all necessary arrangements to obtain a C3 visa for the time that the program will be held in South Korea.
