FOUNDERS Debra Polanco Ken Polanco is the CEO of Sanctuary Clothing and Debra Polanco is the Chief Creative Officer. Together, the successful husband and wife team are the Founders and the vision behind the brand. The Founders, who are bi-coastal, have offices and residences on both coasts, splitting their work time between Los Angeles and New York. But their private Sanctuary is a home in Laguna Beach where they enjoy entertaining family and friends, while living the relaxed California beach lifestyle. Ken Polanco s unique eye for connecting art and commerce successfully has helped shape him into the entrepreneur he is today. Ken s initial success in the business world started when he opened his screen-printing company in Los Angeles. Through the print shop his innovate ideas finally had a medium in which they could begin to shine. Not only did the print company open the door to the fashion world, it also allowed him to create a venue for local Los Angeles artists and fashion designers to stay connected in a like-minded and creative community. As an entrepreneur always striving for more artistic endeavors, Ken ventured out and co-created the Sanctuary empire. The belief in quality and relevant women s clothing at approachable prices helped bridge the gap between business and fashion. Ken s foundation for success is based on his intuitive sense of timing. Debra is a visionary and has been what she calls a disciple and advocate of fashion her entire life. The quintessential shop girl, she spent her days at flea markets and vintage stores seeking out her inspiration before graduating from FIDM in Los Angeles to formalize her passion. Her unique vision and creative talent are now alive in Sanctuary. SANCTUARY: a unique style signature of its own. The couple met in 1987 and have maintained a great partnership of business and creativity, ever since. Sharing vision and passionate spirits, the pair s indie nature was instrumental in creating a progressive environment in which to develop their business as well as raise their family in. From the very beginning, Sanctuary was immediately recognized as a Master Pant Maker, this success was a perfect platform to evolve the collection into the lifestyle brand it is today. With a fresh take on vintage styling that focuses on detail, Sanctuary is an essential part of every modern girl s closet. Whether running to catch an international flight or scoping out the local flea markets, Debra explains, It s all about creating and living your life the way you want to and we all need clothes to take us there. Ultimately, her designs focus on fit, comfort and fashion, which are essentials in dressing for women who approach their daily life with individual style and effortless confidence. Ken expresses, With Sanctuary, you feel a real sense of balance. It s not the destination, it s the journey you have to find time to work and play and these are the clothes you want to wear while doing both. The Polanco family truly lives the 5-star bohemian lifestyle, designing with soul and innovation along the way. When not in one of their abodes, this couple is traveling around the globe, searching for inspiration and materials for next season s collection. Sanctuary Clothing has quickly become one of the most sought after fashion brands in the U.S. and abroad. Always seeking to go above and beyond the norm, Ken s business acumen and their joint fashion expertise are what keep Sanctuary constantly progressing and evolving into a modern lifestyle brand.
