How to Measure your Windows The Guardian Angel window guard is available in several sizes. It s important that your windows are measured prior to placing an order to ensure you receive the correct guard. Please be sure to read the warnings before proceeding. WARNINGS Before installation, verify local building and fire codes are not being violated. This window guard is intended to protect against potential falls by children age 5 and under. Window guard must be installed in solid frame material or stud for proper operation. There should be no openings exceeding 4-inches anywhere in the guarded area. Failure to follow all manufacturer s installation and safety instructions may reduce the effectiveness of this product and increase the risk of accidental window falls. Do not install a guard horizontally, or a guard meant for double hung windows, in a casement/sliding window. A child could use the guard as a ladder and fall through the unguarded area of the window. This product is not intended for installation outside of the home/window where it will be exposed to inclement weather conditions. This product is not intended as a substitute for proper adult supervision. Guardian Angel Window Guards are not meant to protect children from intruders. Single/Double Hung Windows Single/double hung windows consist of two separate window panels. Typically, sliding the bottom panel upwards opens the window. 1) Measure the depth of the window frame where the posts will be mounted (inside right and left sides of window frame). *If the depth of the frame is less than ¾ inch, the guard will need to be mounted on the outside of the window frame (on the molding or wall around the window). The end posts are ¾ inch wide and need at least that much space for installation. Please keep in mind, the end posts also need to be screwed into solid material or stud for proper operation. 2) Once you determine if you are installing the guard on the inside or outside of the window frame (on the molding or wall), measure the width of that area. This will determine the width of the guard.

3) Measure the height of the window opening with the window fully open. *The height of the guard is 21 3/8 inches. The window should not exceed this height. If the window s opening is more than 21 3/8 inches high, you can use a window stop to prevent the window from opening above the guard. If the top window panel opens, and it can t be secured, the entire window must be guarded. You will need a vertical style guard (see instructions on how to measure sliding windows). 4) Find the width that needs to be covered in the chart below to determine the correct model #. If window width falls exactly on the edge of a width range, order the model within the larger range. Example #1: Width equals 23 inches (order model 2335-24H or 44H*) Example #2: Width equals 17 inches (order model 1723-24H or 44H*) *The first four numbers correspond to the window width, the next number corresponds to the number of emergency release buttons (2 or 4), the last number refers to the number of bars. The H stands for horizontal guard. The 5890 and 7320 model are available only with 4 buttons because of their large size. Model No. Chart Window Width (inches) Model No. 14 to 17 1417-24H or 1417-44H 17 to 23 1723-24H or 1723-44H 23 to 35 2335-24H or 2335-44H 35 to 58 3558-24H or 3558-44H 58 to 90 5890-44H 90 to 120 7320-44H All double hung window guards measure 21 3/8 high. This includes the side posts. Openings should not exceed this height. There is a 4 inch space between the top bar and the top of the side posts, which is the maximum space allowed in the guarded area of the window opening. See the Guardian Angel specifications for a detailed illustration of this guard. Cautionary Note: When measuring your windows, please keep in mind there should be no openings exceeding 4 inches in the guarded area.

Sliding Windows Sliding windows consist of two separate window panels that slide horizontally to open. Sliding windows with one panel that slides are called single sliders. Windows in which both panels slide are called double sliders. 1) Measure the depth of the window frame where the posts will be mounted (inside top & bottom of window frame). *If there are shades, blinds, etc. mounted in the frame that may interfere with the guard, or if the depth of the window frame is less than ¾ inch, the guard will need to be mounted on the outside of the window frame (on the molding or wall). The end posts are ¾ inch wide and need at least that much space for installation. Please keep in mind, the end posts also need to be screwed into solid material or stud for proper operation. 2) Once you determine if you are installing the guard on the inside or outside of the window frame (on the molding or wall), measure the height of that area. This will determine the height of the guard. The entire window opening needs to be guarded. If it is only guarded halfway up, a child could climb the guard and fall through the unguarded area at the top of the window. 3) Measure the width of the window opening. This will determine the width of the guard(s) and the number of guards required. For single sliders, you have the option to cover just the opening of the window. For double sliders, measure the entire window. If your window is over 26 inches wide, you will need more than one guard. 4) Find the height that needs to be covered in the chart below to determine the correct model # (please note, this is not the entire model #, see step 5). If window height falls exactly on the edge of a height range, order the model within the larger range. Example #1: Height equals 23 inches, order model 2335 Example #2: Height equals 17 inches, order model 1723 Model No. Chart Window Height (inches) Model No. 14 to 17 1417 17 to 23 1723 23 to 35 2335 35 to 58 3558 58 to 90 5890 90 to 120 7320

5) Find the width that needs to be covered in the chart below to determine the correct number of bars and the quantity of each style guard required to cover the window. Example #1: Window height equals 25 inches and window width (opening) equals 15 inches, you will need: Qty 1 2335 with 3 vertical bars (order model 2335-43V*) Example #2: Window height equals 35 inches and window width (opening) equals 49 inches, you will need three guards: Qty 1 3558 with 3 vertical bars (order model 3558-43V*) Qty 2 3558 with 4 vertical bars (order model 3558-44V*) *The first four numbers correspond to the window height, the next number corresponds to the number of emergency release buttons (4), the last number refers to the number of bars. Cautionary Note: When measuring your windows, please keep in mind there should be no openings exceeding 4 inches in the guarded area. Continued on next page

The above illustration shows a single slider guarded with a 4-bar guard. In this example, only the half that opens is guarded. The above illustration shows a double slider guarded with two 5-bar guards, mounted side by side. Double sliders open from both sides, so it is necessary to guard the entire window opening. Casement Windows Casement windows consist of one or two separate window panels that crank open. The window panels either open outwards to the side or outwards and up. In both cases, the entire window opening must be guarded. 1) Measure the depth of the window frame where the posts will be mounted (inside top & bottom of window frame). *If there is a cranking device, shades, blinds, etc. in the frame that may interfere with the guard, or if the depth of the window frame is less than ¾ inch, the guard will need to be mounted on the outside of the window frame (on the molding or wall). The end posts are ¾ inch wide and need at least that much space for installation. Please keep in mind, the end posts also need to be screwed into solid material or stud for proper operation.

Cautionary Note: When measuring your windows, please keep in mind there should be no openings exceeding 4 inches in the guarded area. The above illustration shows a casement window guarded with two 5-bar guards, mounted side by side. Typically, the entire window opens on casement windows, therefore the entire opening must be guarded.
