1 Introduction In the context of the European Horizon 2020 project Social Car, Taxistop will organise a mobility hackathon in Brussels during the weekend of 24-26 March. Since this will be the first time for Taxistop to organize such an event, we are looking for an experienced partner to co-organize. 2 About Taxistop Since its conception in 1975, Taxistop is developing services that allow for the optimalization of use of personal goods. Both with regard to mobility and home ownership, Taxistops motto doing more with less is reflected in all proposed projects. For 40 years, Taxistop has been looking for ways to innovate in order to respond to peoples needs and offer them alternative solutions to save time and money. All our services are available throughout Belgium. Additionaly this also benefits the environment (less CO2 emissions, more available space, etc.) and society (strengthening social bonds, encounters, opportunities for the disabled to be mobile again, etc.). Currently Taxistop is still developing new projects and expanding its network by being part of the movement of the sharing economy. This allows us to develop services, projects or events through which various players in the field can complement each other and offer services with increasing relevance and cohesion. So Taxistop is really 40 years of expertise on shared mobility, social and adventurous. Solo car drivers, people of older age, or demanding backpacker; our diverse audience has found what it was looking for through Taxistop. 3 About SocialCar SocialCar is a European research and innovation project that seeks to incorporate carpooling into existing mobility systems; by means of powerful planning algorithms and big data integration from public transport, carpooling systems and crowd sourcing. The project unites ITS developers, social and economic scientists, transport engineers, carpoolers and public authorities from Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain and Belgium. Their mission is to design, develop, test and roll out a service that simplifies the travel experience of citizens in urban and peri-urban areas. SocialCar will define data processing flows and design algorithms to match travel requests with the integrated public-private transport supply, complemented by a reputation-based mechanism. Design of the service will be shaped by using open source software under the GNU General Public License. With all software modules integrated, SocialCar will be tested in 10 European sites. 3.1 Context of the hactathon SocialCar stimulates these 10 cities to organize local hackatons as a means of dissemination and future implementation. Local partners are invited to work with Youth For Public Transport (Y4PT) on this, as they are currently organizing local transport hackathons around the world by employing information and communications technologies (ICTs) to advance the transport sector towards sustainability. One person of the winning team of each of those local transport hackathons is invited to Montreal (Canada) for the 62th UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2017 the world s oldest and leading sustainable transport event to challenge each other in a final round the global transport hackathon to come out, all together, with the best ground-breaking solutions. Taxistop, as the local partner in Belgium, will organize a transport hackathon in Brussels in this context. 4 Organization of hackathon To organize this hackathon in Brussels, we are looking for a partner with experience in organizing hackatons and with the means to engage a broad network of hackers to participate. 4.1 Goal of the hackathon Our goal with this hackathon is to engage Belgian hackers to work around the theme of mobility. We want to stimulate new applications that make it easier for the public to find out what their best travel option is (comparing price, time, CO2 impact ) and how they can efficiently combine multiple modes of transport. More concretely, we aim to - Have 100 hackers attend: these can be both Belgian as international hackers (though we invite people to (also) attend the local hackathon in their own country if relevant). - Have at least one group working on an application that stimulates/facilitates carpooling in combination with other modes of transport. We don t want our hackathon to be an isolated event, so we want to explore how we can cooperate with other events like Hack Belgium. This way, we can all build together towards the same goal and (ideas for) solutions don t get lost after the event is over. Hackathon Brussels - 4
