Introduction Welcome to Reading Oceans! Reading Oceans provides students with a comprehensive and extensive reading programme unlike any others available. Its academically levelled and progressive content helps young learners and/or students build up their English literacy and language fluency at a pace that is suitable to their individual development and needs. Core Components After students become familiar with some of the sounds of English, they can begin to develop their ability to recognise, decode and read words. In the phonics activities, students progress from basic sounds and double letter blends to build their ability to read words. Chants, activities and stories are utilised throughout. We have brought 50 of the world s most famous nursery rhymes and songs to life with songs, dances and activities which will strengthen young learners English language ability in a fun and enjoyable way. Our nursery rhyme application features 5 levels of songs, and each level contains 10 songs. Students are able to listen to songs, sing-a-long and complete activities as they progress through the titles. READERS Hundreds of English storybooks Levels 1~25 s Original Fiction High-Interest Nonfiction Readers form the foundation of the programme. Students can read stories through e-books, watch gentle animations of the story and complete activities to reinforce language acquisition. After their exposure to the story, a short comprehension quiz is administered so that the student s understanding can be enhanced, and we can make sure that they are at the appropriate level. Such activities are designed to activate the students' prior knowledge and also to introduce essential new words in order to expand their vocabulary and fluency. There are 25 levels of readers and an extra 26th challenge level, containing a combined 498 levelled stories. Determining a child's reading level has never been this easy! In order to determine his/her reading level, a student subscriber will take an online test. This test measures two components : Knowledge of vocabulary & Comprehension ability 4 Vocabulary Test Match the image with the vocabulary. Vocabulary Test Choose the correct definition. Reading Level Test Answer content-based comprehension questions.

Nursery Rhymes The nursery rhymes featured in Reading Oceans familiarise early learners with the sounds of English. Studying with songs and rhymes helps student gain familiarity and confidence while developing key developmental skills and vocabulary. 50 carefully selected rhymes and children s songs Flash cards teach key sounds and vocabulary. Scripts for rhymes and songs are provided. Students can watch, listen and join in the fun with our 3D animated songs. Students will love singing along with the characters and songs. Practice makes perfect! REVIEW ACTIVITIES Key vocabulary is repeated in this section to reinforce the learning of English. 5

Phonics The phonics lessons in Reading Oceans provide students with a systematic practice of sounds and words. 70 systematic phonics lessons! Listen to the sounds. Practise reading the words. Fun activities to reinforce knowledge. Stories are included so that students can practise reading previously learnt vocabulary. Fundamental Skill Development Reading Oceans includes 20 levelled phonics readers, which reinforce the key vocabulary. Levelled Readers The Reading Oceans specialised e-book system provides a language-learning focus for developing fluency through extensive reading. There are almost 500 levelled books in Reading Oceans. The readers in Reading Oceans have been levelled to allow for students abilities to progress naturally through the principles of extensive reading. Reading Oceans contains an impressive collection of classic tales, original fiction and highinterest nonfiction titles. Learners will enjoy the wide spectrum of topics and themes of the stories. s Original Fiction High-Interest Nonfiction 25 levels are included, each containing 18-19 levelled readers. Having 25 levels ensures that students are placed at an accurate level for their ability and are motivated as they progress. Students are able to read the selected titles through e-books or animations. The online activities in Reading Oceans activate prior knowledge and introduce essential words to expand learners vocabulary. Quizzes for each story and achievement tests as students progress through the stories have been included to monitor each student s progression and improvement. At the end, we offer a special challenge level containing 60 levelled classic readers! 7

Levelled Readers Key Reading Activities Key elements to support student development are available for each story: e-books Students will love flipping through our wide selection of classic, fiction and nonfiction levelled readers. Our wide variety of age and level appropriate material is sure to delight any young learner. Animations Students can watch and listen to a gently animated story. These stories are designed to be fun and interesting while still building fluency. Quizzes A short comprehension quiz is available for each story. Reading Awards Shells Students can earn shells as they complete activities. Shells can be used to customise their avatars and obtain items for use in their own personal ocean. Motivation starts here! Reading Grade Students can improve their reading 8 grade ranking by being active in the programme. Hall of Fame Motivate students! Special benefits and awards are given online for exceptional students.

Levelled Readers Additional Reading Activities Additional activities to reinforce the target vocabulary are included for each story! Students build additional skills and abilities through these activities. Students will enjoy these interactive activities! A wealth of supplemental activities to generate additional skills are included! Word Activity Students learn key vocabulary for the story. The activity can be used prior to reading to support comprehension or after reading as a review of the target language. Sentence Activity Students engage in an interactive task to review sentence structure patterns from the story. Read Aloud Students can listen and repeat the sentences they hear. Their speaking is recorded, and they can listen to their recording to check and improve their pronunciation and intonation. Book Report Students can create a book report of their own for the story! This activity reinforces language and comprehension while building knowledge of writing and grammar patterns. Summary Activity Students engage in a summarisation activity. Through this activity they can review their knowledge of the 9 book.

Learning Management System Reading Oceans features a comprehensive, easy-to-use Learning Management System (LMS), with assessment tools and measurement metrics for both teachers and students. It manages students levels by tracking the results of their online studies. This information includes information on stories read, time spent reading, quiz results and much, much more! Learners can be evaluated and move up to higher levels through an achievement test. Each student s reading history is monitored with a progress chart and reading log.
