PhD in Education, major in Educational Leadership and Management (Executive Program) The Executive Program in Educational Leadership and Management is designed for experienced educational leaders and managers. Through the adoption of an innovative teaching-learning system that combines traditional classroom work with technology-enabled learning strategies, independent study and one-on-one faculty student consultation, the program enables the participants to complement their extant knowledge, competencies and skills with up-to-date theories, concepts and skills in the various areas of educational leadership and management. Admission Requirements Admission to programs offered by the Educational leadership and management Department is on a selective basis. In general, only those students who can profit from graduate work and are able to successfully comply with prescribed requirements for graduation shall be considered. The following factors are considered in the admission process: 1. Possession of a master s degree in educational management with an average of at least 90%. 2. Managerial experience 3. Entrance examination results 4. Clarity of proposed dissertation topic 5. Potential for graduate work and educational leadership based on results of interview. Financial Assistance A limited number of financial assistance awards is available to Filipino graduate students. Information on available grants may be secured from the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Office (Director: Ms. Severina V. Kikuchi) located at the mezzanine of Graduate Admissions Office. Course Requirements: Students are required to pass the written comprehensive examinations and the oral examinations for the dissertation. Course Distribution Basic Courses 15 units Core Course 18 units Integrating Courses 15 units Dissertation Writing 12 units ----------- Total 60 units An additional of six (6) units of Advanced Technical Reading and Writing 1&2 will be required for applicants with a low score in the essay part of the entrance examination.

*Course Tracking YEAR ONE SUMMER Prerequisite courses for students whose master s degrees are not in educational management. Orientation to E-Learning 1st TERM: Strategic Planning and Management The course focuses on the concepts of strategic planning and management and their applications to education. Students are expected to have acquired knowledge and skills vital to designing strategic plans for educational institutions. Human Behavior, Organizational Culture, and Institutional Development This course will focus on employee behavior, organizational structures and culture, and organizational learning. The course will also examine the relationship between employee behavior, culture and institutional effectiveness and development. Specialized Curriculum Studies The course primarily deals with curriculum planning; the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum in the light of management functions, concerns, and issues. The orientation of the course is the management of curriculum planning at the tertiary level. 2nd TERM: Supervision of Instructional Programs The course focuses on the instructional leadership role of the school manager in the context of the effective school environment. Models and approaches to effective instructional supervision and major findings of effective schooling research as they pertain to instructional leadership will be tackled. Internationalization of Education The course focuses on the understanding of concepts, theories, approaches, models, practices, issues, concerns and consequences affecting the internationalization of higher education. It provides the opportunity to design a program integrating the concepts of internationalization of education for institutions of higher learning in the Philippines. It familiarizes the students with the standards and criteria of internationalization of education to improve the quality of Philippine education geared towards the development of the Filipino as a global citizen. Management of Technology in Educational Learning Environments The course will provide educational leaders the full understanding of the various issues and concerns relative to the organization, management, and administration of educational technology in a learning environment. The students will be exposed to the various types of information communication technologies and their instructional application.

3rd TERM: Advance Statistics A course which exposes the student to statistical principles and methods useful in research and managerial responsibilities. Computer facilities shall be employed extensively in the solution of statistical problems. Methods of Research The course is designed to develop knowledgeable producers and consumers of research on educational management. For a holistic perspective of the research process, the course integrates statistics with research whenever called for. Seminar in Dissertation Writing This seminar-workshop is intended to improve the quality of students' proposed research topics, either for a project paper or a dissertation. This course is therefore designed to introduce students to the critical aspects of their proposed topic by openly sharing and soliciting from coparticipants specialized and technical types of research techniques. Pre-requisite: Models of Research in Educational Management YEAR TWO 1st TERM: Educational Leadership and Management in Educational Institutions The course attempts to provide educational leaders with a strong foundation consisting of research, theory-oriented, and inter-disciplinary approaches such that they develop their own principles and theories that may provide consistent guidelines for their management actions. The course focuses on the concepts of strategic planning and management and their applications to education. Students are expected to have acquired knowledge and skills vital to designing strategic plans for educational institutions. School Finance and Material Resources Management Financial management is a systematic and formalized approach of managing three important areas: analysis and planning, asset management and financial structure management Building on the course content of fiscal management at the master s level, this course deals with management of long-term assets, the cost of capital and financial structure, and long term financing. Management of Academic and Administrative Services This course focuses on the review and analysis of issues and the means for managing academic and administrative services in education. Design and Development of Alternative Delivery Systems The course focuses on the design and development of educational delivery systems appropriate in a technology-enabled society. Topics for discussion will include e-learning, distance education, technology-enabled educational platforms among others.

Proposal Defense 2nd TERM: Organizational Transformation in Educational Institutions in a Global Society This integrating course provides a forum for students to analyze global trends and their impact on educational development. Students are expected to develop a plan aimed at bringing about organizational transformation of an educational institution or an educational system. Spirituality, Personal Leadership, Social Responsibility This integrating course will focus on spiritually in the work place, and will provide opportunities for students to understand concepts, skills and strategies of personal transformation vital in leading organizations in a rapidly changing society. Topics will include personal vision, the context for innovation, and personal well-being. Ethical and responsible organizations and society will also be analyzed. Management of Entrepreneurial and Adaptive Institutions The course serves as a forum for students to discuss concepts and principles of entrepreneurial management and their applications to educational leadership and management practice. Dissertation Writing 3rd TERM: Dissertation Writing Written Comprehensive Examinations Final Defense * Course Track is for Batch 2009-2011 EDUCATIONAL DELIVERY SYSTEM Courses offered during the various terms will be designed in an integrated manner. Learning activities will include lectures by faculty and resource persons, independent study, focused group sharing and discussions, on-line learning, workshops and visits to appropriate sites and institutions. Face-to-face, live-in sessions with the faculty are scheduled one weekend per month (Thursday PM and Saturday PM) for a total of four (4) weekends per trimester.

During a trimester, the learning hours for a 3-unit course are distributed as follows: Face to face, live in session 24 hours E-Learning / On-line Learning 12 hours Independent Study 6 hours ======== TOTAL 42 hours
