Genetics This page is to be used as a DIVIDER in your student s interactive notebook These are wonderful when putting multiple unit resources in each notebook That way students can flip Genetics right to the section you are currently working on
CUT AND THROW AWAY This paper pocket can be cut out and used to house papers (you d have to fold full sheets of paper in half), warm ups, assessments, etc. After I switched 100% to interactive notebooks in my classroom, I realized students STILL needed a folder or SOMETHING to keep graded homework, rubrics, check sheets, and graded quizzes. Gregor Mendel Gregor Mendel is my favorite scientist This mini book is a (possible) 16 page research project. Students use information from their text books, internet, or other resources to gather information about the father of genetics. Tip: I used Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas to help students comprehend exactly what Mendel Born: Occupation: did Although this is a picture book, the reading level is still challenging enough for middle schoolers

Genetics Heredity Vocabulary Cards These cards can be used for task cards, word wall words, or flash cards for students. I used these as flash cards in my classroom. I just made copies of them one sided and stapled together to create a packet for this kids (yes, it does use a lot of paper, but I am a super-recycler) The kids then cut them into flash cards and wrote the definitions on the back. They used them to study Tip: We created a small paper pocket out of construction paper to tape/glue into our interactive notebooks to house the flash cards so the students had a place to put them Heterozygous Homozygous

Homozygous: An allele combination using two of the SAME alleles (2 dominant or 2 recessive). The prefix HOMO means SAME. Learn it, love it. Example: HH, both parents have dominant allele This is an alternative foldable for doing all 6 words at a time This could also be used as a homework assignment or warm up *Cut along the dotted lines and fold along the solid lines. You will have 6 doors. *You can use this foldable for however you would like, but I will do the following: 1. Students draw a picture/visual representation of the word on the FRONT flap. 2. On the inside LEFT flap, students will write the definition of the word. 3. On the inside RIGHT flap, students will give a real-word example or sentence to help them make connections. I will use this foldable in a lesson right before I teach punnett squares If the students master these words, it will make solving Punnett squares much easier for them Homozygous Definition: Two of the SAME alleles for one trait.
