Series A15/64 Dissolved Ozone Monitor The Model A15/64 is an advanced electrochemical system for continuously monitoring dissolved ozone concentration in water. It uses a direct sensing ozone probe to measure dissolved ozone specifically, without interference from other sample components, such as residual chlorine. Engineered to perform reliably with a minimum of maintenance, the system is ideal for potable water treatment, ultrapure water systems, cooling towers, fish farming, pharmaceutical grade water, or virtually any ozonated water stream.
Electronic Monitor The Dissolved Ozone Monitor electronics package provides a real time display of ozone concentration, external alarm and control outputs, and an isolated analog output. The monitor is housed in a compact 1/4 DIN panel mounted aluminum enclosure, and is also available in a NEMA 4X Fiberglas enclosure suitable for hostile environments. Five switches located on the front panel provide access to monitor programming functions and allow operators to view information such as sample temperature, alarm setpoints, and analog output value. An access code number is required in order to change any of the calibration or setup parameters, protecting the system from unauthorized tampering. The DO 3 monitor may be programmed for either low range or high range measurement. In low range, the monitor displays ozone over a range of 0-2.000 PPM with a resolution of 0.001 PPM (1 PPB). In high range, the display is 0-20.00 with a resolution of 0.01 PPM. For special applications, a high range system of 0-200 PPM is available. An isolated 4-20 ma output is provided for external recording or data logging. This output may be programmed for any required span using the front panel switches, and may be changed to 0-20 ma and used with a shunt resistor to provide zero based voltage outputs if required. An optional PID Control output is also available. Contact outputs provided in the monitor include two programmable control relays with variable deadband and variable time delay functions. An additional alarm relay is provided which will actuate on either low or high ozone condition, or on the failure of the control system to maintain a proper ozone concentration. All variables such as alarm or control setpoints, deadband, and time delay are programmable from the front panel keys. Dissolved Sensing Element The sensing element in the A15/64 system is a polargraphic membraned sensor that is specific to molecular O 3. In operation, ozone diffuses through a membrane at the tip of the sensor and is reduced to oxygen. The reaction causes current to flow between the sensing and counter electrodes, with the current being directly proportional to dissolved ozone concentration. In essence, the sensor operates like a battery, with ozone causing current to flow. Since the sensor consumes ozone in the measurement, sample flow is required for measurement. Sample velocity of at least 0.2 ft./sec. is recommended to insure accurate data. Because a permeable membrane isolates the sensing electrodes from the solution being monitored, the dissolved ozone sensor exhibits
excellent zero stability. Zero drift is generally less than 5 PPB over months of operation. Response to ozone is fast, reaching 90% in less than 1 minute, and the polymetric membrane is not degraded by normal water constituents. Should coatings be deposited on the membrane, they can be quickly and easily removed by wiping with a soft cloth. Dissolved ozone sensors are normally used in a flowcell assembly, but are also available in submersible versions for special applications. Sensors will normally last 5 years or more, and they are designed to make normal membrane changes simple and inexpensive. Flowcell Assembly Maximum stability from a DO 3 sensor is obtained when the sample flow and pressure are stable. The A15/64 monitor is provided with a constant head overflow chamber which automatically regulates the sample flow past the sensor. Flow variations at the inlet to the overflow cell have no effect on the ozone measurement, insuring the highest possible data validity. The flowcell is made from clear cast acrylic, allowing the user to view the condition of the membrane without removing the sensor from the flowing sample. The sensor inserts into the side of the flowcell and is sealed in place by double o-rings. The recommended inlet flow rate is 15 gallons per hour (1 liter per minute). For systems requiring a flow system that is not open to atmosphere, a sealed flowcell with 1/8 FNPT fittings for inlet and outlet connections is available. NEMA-4X Version
