3 SUMMARY OF MEETINGS TUESDAY, 21 JUNE 2005 3 rd PLENARY MEETING Item 14: Recommendation of a candidate for the post of the Director-General. Statements were made by the representatives of Egypt (on behalf of the African Group), Kenya and Nigeria, and by observers from Uganda and the African Union. The public meeting was adjourned, after which a private meeting took place. **** The Board resumed its public meeting and the President announced that the Board has recommended Mr. K.Yumkella (Sierra Leone) for the post of the Director-General and adopted two decisions. Item 4 (a) to (h) and 7: - Report of the Programme and Budget Committee, - Implementation of the recommendations of the External Auditor. Replies were made by the Secretariat to queries raised during the consideration of the items. A statement was made by the representative of Japan. 4 th PLENARY MEETING Item 14: (cont d) Recommendation of a candidate for the post of Director-General Mr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, the Director-General designate made a statement. Statements were made by the President and by the representatives of Egypt (on behalf of the African Group), Bolivia (on behalf of GRULAC), Luxembourg (on behalf of the European Union, the acceding countries Bulgaria and Romania, the candidate countries Croatia and Turkey as well as the countries of the Stabilization and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and the EFTA country Norway member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine), Indonesia (on behalf of G-77 and China), Sudan, Germany, Bolivia, Morocco, India, France, Pakistan (also on behalf of the Asian Group), China, Zimbabwe, Republic of Korea, Uruguay, South Africa, Algeria, Austria, Russian Federation, Philippines, Norway and the African Union, and the observers from Peru, Burkina Faso, and Sri Lanka. Statements were also made by ministers from Uganda, Kenya, Syrian Arab Republic, Nigeria and Iraq. Representatives of the UNIDO Secretariat made statements

Statements were made by the representatives of Indonesia (on behalf of G-77 and China), Nigeria (on behalf of the African Group), Bolivia (on behalf of GRULAC), China, Algeria, Italy, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Item 6 and 9: Implementation of the medium-term programme framework, 2004-2007 and 2006-2009. Statements were made by the representatives of Indonesia (on behalf of G-77 and China), Luxembourg (on behalf of the European Union, the acceding countries Bulgaria and Romania, the candidate countries Croatia and Turkey as well as the countries of the Stabilization and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro and the EFTA country Norway member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine), Nigeria (on behalf of the African Group) Bolivia (on behalf of GRULAC), Columbia, China, Japan and the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-Alga Spirulina against malnutrition.
