SIGMATEX-LANIER TEXTILES WHERE EVERY THREAD COUNTS 1976: Sigmatex was founded. It is one of the earliest suppliers of imported textile products. Its main focus was the importation of hospitality, healthcare and industrial terry products from India to supply US distributors. Early 1980s: Sigmatex was instrumental in establishing the first towel mill in Sri Lanka, Philippines and Malaysia. Mid 1980s: By this time Sigmatex was importing 50% of India and Pakistan's terry towel quota, 100% of Sri Lanka, Philippines and Malaysia's terry towel quota and a large percentage of China's into the US., establishing Sigmatex as a pioneer in the importation of globally sourced textiles into the US. 1995: Sigmatex formed a partnership and created Lanier Textile Distribution, based in Atlanta, GA, to distribute high quality, globally sourced textile products directly to the linen supply industry. 1975 1980 1985 1990 1995 1979: Sigmatex formed strategic partnerships with textile manufacturers in Pakistan. 1982: Sigmatex established trade relations with Chinese manufacturers in Shanghai and Beijing to become one of the first US companies to import terry towel products from China into the US. Mid 1980 Early 1990: Sigmatex expanded into other types of institutional items such as sheets and pillowcases, bar mops, shop towels, etc. The quota system that monitored imports was coming to an end.
