BUILDING SAFETY DEPARTMENT www.ci.medford.or.us CITY OF MEDFORD LAUSMANN ANNEX 200 SOUTH IVY STREET MEDFORD, OREGON 97501 TELEPHONE (541) 774-2350 FAX (541) 618-1707 E-MAIL: building@cityofmedford.org SUBMITTAL GUIDELINES DETACHED GARAGE, SHOP, SHED AND SMALL BUILDINGS This provides guidelines for contractors and homeowners constructing a residential garage or shop that if followed, will make plan submittal and permit issuance a more streamline process. Listed below are the types of permit that may be required depending upon the complexity of the project: A building permit is required for the construction of the structural elements of the garage/shop. An electrical permit is required for all electrical installations. A mechanical permit is required for installations of all elements and appliances associated with heating and air conditioning. A plumbing permit is required for the installation of all elements and appliances associated with plumbing. HOW TO APPLY FOR PERMITS Apply for permits at the Building Safety Department. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Or, go on-line at www.ci.medford.or.us. You will find the building application request form on the right hand side of the screen. Once you have completed the application save it to your desk top before emailing it to the building department at building@cityofmedford.org. ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE PERMIT APPLICATION Completed application must be submitted first. Once we have processed this, you will receive a link from our eplans program for you to upload your drawings and supporting documentation. Format drawing to 11 x 17 or 22 x 34. All structural and architectural elements must be completely detailed and included on a comprehensive set of plans. The drawings must be to scale showing all dimensions. The minimum acceptable scale is 1/8 inch = 1 foot and the following information must be included, if applicable. Plot plans must be drawn on a minimum 17 X 22 sheet of paper. 2. Provide on the Plot Plan the township, range, section and tax lot number, north arrow, and the map scale (1 = 20, 1 = 100 etc.). 3. Show the location of proposed and existing buildings and their distance to property lines. 4. Show the location of drainage ways, easements and 100 year and/or 500 year flood plain location, if applicable. 5. Building height. Shall mean the vertical distance from the average contact ground level at the front wall of the building to the highest point of the roof surface for flat roofs; to the deck line for mansard roofs, and to the average height between ease and ridge for gable, hip, and gambrel roofs. For split-level, two story and taller buildings check with the Planning Department for proper setbacks.
