Introduction Hand Grip Back Upholstery Armrest Pad Rear Wheel Armrest Side Panel Seatbelt Cap Hub Rear Wheel Seat Upholstery Rigging Brakes Caster Fork Caster Front Footplate Congratulations on your purchase of a Drive wheelchair. Drive wheelchairs are a product of quality engineering and are manufactured to meet our own highly rigid specifications and will surpass all your expectations. Please read this manual carefully to insure safe usage and understanding of maintenance instructions.

Cautions STREET USE - In most states, it is illegal for use on public roads. Do not operate this wheelchair on roadways, streets or any surfaces with vehicular traffic. MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY - Wheelchair conforms to the requirements of ANSI/RESNA WC/VoL.1-Section 19. The wheelchair has been dynamically tested in a forward facing mode and it must be forward facing during transport. Use with approved vehicle-installed restraining system that includes both pelvic and shoulder belts. This reduces the possibility of head and chest impacts with vehicle components. Postural supports and belts may be used in a moving vehicle but should not be relied upon to replace vehicle-installed restraining system that have been designed and tested for this purpose. HEADREST EXTENSION AND FIVE-POINT HARNESS MUST BE USED TO CONFORM TO ABOVE REQUIREMENTS. STABILITY - Wheelchair is designed to be safe and stable as long as center of gravity is maintained. Care must be taken while performing activities that shift your center of gravity in the chair. Never reach so far that it requires shifting your body in the seat or leaning over out of the chair. When reaching for objects that require change of body position, posture or weight distribution, be certain front casters are positioned in a forward position and engage wheel locks. This will extend the wheel base and stabilize the chair. Do not lean over or apply weight to the top of the wheelchair back as it can increase the risk a fall or tip-over. When trying to extend arms over back, only reach as far as your arm can extend without having to alter your seating position. RAMPS AND SLOPES - Be sure of your own capabilities, limitations and strength before attempting to go up a ramp. Correct techniques on ramp negotiation should be shown to you by a qualified professional. Do not use your chair on a slope steeper than 10% without assistance. Do not turn or change direction on a slope and always stay in the center of the ramp. If you must stop on an incline, make certain to avoid sudden, abrupt movement when you resume movement. Never use rear wheel locks to try to slow or stop your chair. This could result in your chair veering out of control.

Cautions (con t) TRANSFER - Work with a qualified professional before you transfer on your own as it is dangerous. Engage rear wheel locks before you transfer and the chair should be on a smooth, stable and level area. Move your chair as close as you can to the seat you are transferring to, rotate the front casters until they are as far forward as possible, make sure armrests are out of the way and remove or swing footrests out of the way if you can. Do not stand or apply weight to footrest. SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS - Belt restraints should fit securely across the front of user s body and not around wheelchair components or parts (such as; armrest or wheel) Upper torso belts should fit over shoulders. Figures 2 and 3 shows the improper and proper positioning of restraint belts. IMPROPER POSITIONING OF OCCUPANT RESTRAINTS (FIG 1) FIG 1 Restraints should not be held away from body by wheelchair components PROPER POSITIONING OF PELVIC BELT (FIG 2) FIG 2 Pelvic restraints should make full contact across the front of the body near the junction of the thigh and pelvis

Use and Adjustments OPENING THE CHAIR - To open the chair, tilt it to one side and push down on seat rail until it is fully opened. CLOSING/FOLDING THE CHAIR - To close the chair, fold foot plates, grasp seat with both hands at front and back edge and lift. Or, you can tilt chair to one side and lift up on seat rail. WHEEL LOCKS - Proper angle position of wheel lock is at least 1/8 when locked. Loosen or tighten nut on the carriage bolt. Embed lock shoe at least 1/8 by sliding clamp toward rear wheel while handle is engaged in locked position. Tighten nut and bolt to secure in position. Test for correct locking action before actual use. SWING-AWAY FOOTRESTS - To remove footrest, release lock by pushing on the front rigging lever. Swing footrest out and sideways and lift to remove. FOOTRESTS - User should be sitting in wheelchair with feet on the foot plates when adjusting length of footrest. Lift black tab (A) and then depress both push pins (B). Raise or lower foot plate to desired position that will provide maximum support of thighs. Front rigging should not be so low that it causes uncomfortable pressure to thighs at front of seat upholstery. Footrest should not be lower than 2-1/2 from the ground to ensure clearance. (Fig 3) Fig 3 B A ARMREST - Flip up armrest by depressing spring button and lifting arm out of front socket. PUSH HANDLE - Push handles are height adjustable and can be raised or lowered by releasing ratchet handle to desired height. Tighten ratchet handle to secure in place.
