VITEL Copolyester resins A company of TOTAL www.bostik.com

What are VITEL resins? VITEL is the trade name for our co-polyester resins mainly used as heat sealable coatings and laminating adhesives. This is a high performance product range of thermoplastic, high molecular weight, linear saturated co-polyesters. They are extremely versatile offering a good balance of properties from low temperature flexibility to high temperature resistance. They can be blended or used by themselves depending on applications. They can be cured or crosslinked. They exhibit exceptional adhesion properties on PET films which made them widely used in the flexible packaging industry and various other industrial applications. page 2

What are the key applications? COATING - Heat sealable coating - Primer - Top coat - Ink binder Applied by extrusion (ready-to-use) or from solution (solvated or formulated) LAMINATING ADHESIVE - Films, foils, paper, metal, fabrics lamination for various industries Applied from solution (solvated or formulated) page 3

What is VITEL value proposition? FDA compliance for various US and European food contact regulations Specific adhesion Good abrasion resistance Various heat resistances Good chemical resistance Good UV stability High electrical resistivity All these benefits result from the appropriate selection. The Vitel resins, blended themselves, offer extreme versatility in balancing performance properties. They offer various uses from heat seal coatings to industrial laminations. High optical performances page 4

Product range

What are VITEL properties? High molecular weight = more toughness related product Linearity = longer chains, high green strength, better elongation, less reactive groups Saturated = more stable, better UV stability, colorless Glass transition (Tg) = broad range from hard resin to flexible resin (-40 C to 70 C) Melting point (Tm) or Softening point = various heat resistance from 65 C to 155 C Amorphous or semi-crystalline resins = broad range of transparency, heat resistance, chemical resistance, solubility to answer most of the technical needs Functionality = can be cross-linked (hydroxyl-reactive) to improve heat and chemical resistance (commonly with isocyanate or amino resins) page 16

Amorphous and Crystalline Resins Crystallinity is the ability of polymer chains to align in two or threedimensional ordering. Benefits for crystalline resins Higher heat resistance Lower solubility Increased toughness Benefits for amorphous resins Transparency Increase solubility Lower heat activation page 17

Types of Curing Techniques Isocyanate / MDI, TDI, IPDI ; room temperature, no byproduct Silane / Room temperature cure, Increase functional groups, Liquid by product (methanol) Melamine / Higher Temperature Cure (110-130 C), Catalyst, Flexible linkage, Liquid by product (methanol) Epoxy / Higher Reacts with acid groups, Acid catalyzed, high temperature cure (110-130 C), no byproducts page 18

VITEL resins are available... In dry form or solvated (specific project on demand) In pellets or granules page 19
