RESEARCH Gabriele Randelli is a Ph.D. student at Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica Antonio Ruberti (DIS), Sapienza Universitá di Roma, and a member of the Ro.Co.Co. Laboratory (Cognitive and Cooperative Robots), held by Prof. Daniele Nardi. His research topics involve artificial intelligence and robotics: Human-Robot Interaction: - robot interface design through user evaluation; - enhancing HRI awareness through semantic knowledge; - tangible user interfaces for natural human-robot interaction; - interactive robot learning; Cognitive Robotic Systems 3/5
- development of context-based robot architectures; - robot ontology modeling; Search and Rescue Robotics Gabriele is involved in several projects. He has been collaborating at the development of OpenR- DK (Open-source Robot Development Kit) framework, which fosters an efficient and high-quality design of robot systems. He s the maintainer of the robotic system adopted by SPQR Team during RoboCup Virtual Robots Competitions. He is co-developer of an interface for rescue robotics, DesktopInterface, which has been awarded by the Technical Committee during RoboCup 2009. He developed WiiC, an open-source C/C++ library to interface Wiimote devices and its extensions with robots, allowing for natural tele-operation, gesture recognition, pro-active and responsive feedback methods. Concerning symbolic representations and semantic knowledge, he modeled a robot ontology for indoor unstructured environment, USAREnv, adopting ontology design pattern (ODP) techniques. He has an established knowledge about robot simulators (Player/Stage, USARSim, Webots) and real robotic platforms (wheeled robots and humanoid robots mainly).
