The linear regulator has a fixed 5 V output voltage with an input voltage up to 40 V. The regulator is additionally configured with CR, COMP and SLEEP functions. CR function is included for an external resistor connection, that allows maximum output current to be limited to 50 ua..10 ma. The linear regulator maintains stable clamping current within the entire temperature and input-output voltage range, thus enabling the microchip to be used in circuits with quiescent current control. SLEEP function is meant for switching the regulator into a quiescent current limit mode. In this mode all the inner regulator circuits are switched off excluding the voltage VOUT control circuit. On-load power is supplied via charge stored in output capacitor. The output voltage is decreasing 1/9 info@
until the SLEEP function is off or the voltage VOUT (~2.7 V) control circuit is actuated. Therefore, the SLEEP function is possible to be controlled via an integrated circuit, fed by the linear regulator. This operating mode enables the quiescent current to be as low as a few microamperes. COMP function is meant for controlling voltage drop VIN to VOUT + 1.7 V. If VIN < VOUT, the regulator switches to the SLEEP mode. In this case, the diode forward potential between «OUT» and «IN» pins is not generated. COMP outlet may be used for receiving data transferred through power supply circuits. Available protection short circuit protection; output overvoltage protection for output voltage > (VOUT + 0.6 V); output overcurrent (quiescent current limit ILIM); thermal protection (when temperature exceeds 150 0 С, thermal protection security activates and switches the regulator into the SLEEP mode); built-in ESD protection. 2/9 info@

DEVICE OPERATION includes two internal bandgap voltage references: REF2.5V FROM GND having positive polarity with respect to GND stabilization and REF2.5V FROM VOUT having negative polarity with respect to VOUT stabilization. Differential voltage from references is increased by an error amplifier ERR AMPL and is sent to an OUT BUF unit with less than a unity voltage gain and high current gain. START UP unit is meant for initial start-up of the linear regulator. START UP unit turns on or off, if the output voltage is 3.7 V or 2.7 V respectively. Voltage of 3.7 V is sufficient for operation of the units using VOUT as supply voltage. COMP1 unit is a comparator that compares the difference between input and output voltage. If VIN < VOUT the comparator COMP1 via BULK CONTROL changes over an adjusting transistor substrate in the OUT BUF unit, that prevents a forward diode potential (between «OUT» and «IN» ) generation. In the SLEEP mode VOUT CONT unit prevents the VOUT drop below 2.7 V. If VIN is lower than (1.7 V) the comparator COMP2 generates a logical zero. VOUT MAX CONTROL unit is an output overvoltage protection. All the linear regulator units are controlled by means of the TOTAL CONTROL unit output signals. ESD-PROTECTION All MOS devices are often exposed to electrostatic discharge (ESD). The voltage regulator is equipped with built-in ESD protection: 8000 V on «IN» input; 2000 V (Human Body Model), 200 V (Machine Model) on the rest pins. OPERATING VOLTAGES «SLEEP» input is digital. It may control TTL and CMOS logic signals. A low logic level of not more than 0.3 V and a high logic level of not less than 2 V are recommended. Maximum «SLEEP» voltage shouldn t exceed 16 V. A current generator of about 0.03 ua drives the disconnected input to the «GND». If the SLEEP function is switched off, the «SLEEP» input should be connected to the «GND». SLEEP mode is initialized by feeding a pulse to the «SLEEP». A resistor connected between «CR» and «GND» provides adjustment of output clamping current via the «CR». If «CR» is connected to «GND» the current is maximum. An additional resistor, paralleled to the main one, may be used. There must be a possibility of its commutation while device operation. The linear regulator can't operate with the disconnected «CR» input. An external resistor should be placed as close as possible to the IC pinouts. The «COMP» output is a digital output with CMOS logic levels, noninverting to input «IN», with switching level that is equal to (VOUT + 1.7 V) towards «IN». 7/9 info@
