Polycom RealPresence Access Director System, Virtual Edition Setup The sections that follow describe the steps required to perform the initial installation and setup of a Polycom RealPresence Access Director system, Virtual Edition. Once you have completed installation and first time setup, see the Polycom RealPresence Access Director System Administrator s Guide for additional configuration and customization tasks you can perform. Supported Environment on page 5 Installation Prerequisites on page 6 Capacity Planning Guidance on page 6 System Installation on page 6 Advanced System Configuration on page 10 Supported Environment The RealPresence Access Director, Virtual Edition software is available as an OVA package for a new installation. You can deploy the OVA package to a VMware ESXi host using the VMware vsphere client. The Polycom RealPresence Access Director system, Virtual Edition does not support two-server redundant configuration as with the Appliance Edition. Polycom recommends using vsphere High Availability (HA) features to protect against host-level failures. See your VMWare documentation for more information. To install and configure the RealPresence Access Director system, Virtual Edition you will need a computer with the hardware and software listed below: Hardware 1280x1024 (SXGA) minimum display resolution; 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) or greater recommended Software VMware vsphere client, version 5.0 or higher (higher versions include VMware ESXi and vcenter Server) Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 or higher Java version 7 Adobe Flash version 9.0.124 or higher Polycom, Inc. 5
Polycom RealPresence Access Director System, Virtual Edition Getting Started Guide Installation Prerequisites The RealPresence Access Director, Virtual Edition OVA package can be installed in two different ways. 1 On a vsphere ESXi server version 5.0 or higher, without using vcenter Server. This installation option does not support the use of vsphere High Availability (HA) features. 2 On a vsphere ESXi server version 5.0 or higher using vcenter Server management features. This installation option supports the use of vsphere HA features. The Polycom RealPresence Access Director system, Virtual Edition does not support two-server redundant configuration. Polycom recommends using vsphere High Availability (HA) features to protect against host-level failures. See your VMware documentation for more information. You will need the following information in order to install the RealPresence Access Director, Virtual Edition system in your VMware environment: If your network environment includes a DHCP server, Polycom recommends that you reserve a static IP address on your DHCP server before you install the RealPresence Access Director, Virtual Edition system. Ensure that your ESXi host machine has the capacity for your planned RealPresence Access Director, Virtual Edition system deployment. See Capacity Planning Guidance on page 6. Review the Polycom RealPresence Access Director System, Virtual Edition Release Notes. Capacity Planning Guidance The following table describes the hardware profile for each virtual machine on which you install the RealPresence Access Director, Virtual Edition. The table also provides throughput and performance details. Component CPU Memory Disk Throughput Performance Recommended Profile 8 virtual cores 8 GB 64 GB 600 MB 900 calls Different hardware profiles may not be supported by Polycom and could affect your system performance. System Installation The following steps assume you are familiar with deploying applications into a VMware environment. For more information about deploying applications into a VMware environment, please see the VMware documentation. Polycom, Inc. 6
Polycom RealPresence Access Director System, Virtual Edition Getting Started Guide 1 From the vsphere client, install the RealPresence Access Director system, Virtual Edition OVA file. During the installation, select a unique name for the instance and specify the datastore and disk storage format. See the VMware vsphere documentation for specific instructions. 2 From the vsphere client, select the virtual instance you installed and power it on. 3 Configure a static IP address, as described in these sections: For networks without a DHCP server on page 7. For networks with a DHCP server on page 9. Assign a Static IP Address and Configure Initial Network Settings During the initial network setup, only one static IP address must be configured for the RealPresence Access Director system. After installation is complete, you may configure additional IP addresses from the RealPresence Access Director system Web user interface. For networks without a DHCP server If your network does not have a DHCP server, you must use a command line interface (CLI) to assign a static IP address to the RealPresence Access Director system after you deploy the OVA file. To assign a static IP address 1 From the vsphere client, select the RealPresence Access Director system, Virtual Edition that you installed and click the Console tab. The CLI log-in screen displays. 2 Log in with the following credentials: User ID: polycom Password: polycom The command line interface displays. 3 Select Management network setup, then OK. 4 Select eth0, then OK. 5 Select Static address setup. The RealPresence Access Director system does not support the Static route setup or Set DHCP on menu options. 6 Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway. 7 Select Save configuration. Network services restart. Polycom, Inc. 7
