Strengths Lot of knowledge and talent (top universities, strong selection) Many incubators (450) among which the largest of Latin America with hardware and 20 years of experience (100m$ investment) Big market Governmental push: Climate-KIC equivalents Startup Brazil en Seed Many accelerators and some good ones with strong connections to SV
Weaknesses No entrepreneurial culture, strong divide between science and business Internal focus (because of big market) No solid capital markets Very young scene (first accelerator 10 years young, most are 2-3-4 years)
Opportunities Brazil as a market for EU startups that offer solutions for biobased economy (i.e. Pectcof and Yellow-Pallet) and logistical challenges Brazilie (EasyTaxi was a BR startup) Startup Brazil and Seed are open to receive and support Climate-KIC startups
Threats Difficult country (local partner a must) Focus on fast-exit software startups but miles behind SV and Israel Expensive country
Lessons learned all about people!!! strong selections focused on people over technology debate: can engineers be taught business skills vs adding business people to team right synergy a must: can the accelerator really help the startup? no bullshit nor mediastars-only allowed: a bullshit compass per startup: do they comply with what they said, and do the conferences they shine on actually contribute to their business? focus on product,-users-growth, not investment prepare VCs post acceleration program: acceleration doesn t stop when the program ends
wanted business models by BR accelerators early stage + + later stage consultancy $ $
Thank you!
