When your pet is detected, the ssscat sends a quick, safe spray that startles your pet. Your pet quickly learns to avoid areas that are off-limits. The spray is odorless and safe; however it is a sufficient stimulus to deter pets from jumping on countertops, digging in trash or entering restricted areas. Key Definitions Motion Detector Unit: Detects motion of pet and emits spray. Motion Sensor: Detects motion from the pet - 5 adjustable settings. Refill Connection Point: Connection to Refill Can. Spray Nozzle: Emits the spray. The spray travels approximately 39 inches from the unit. Spray Direction Switch: Adjusts Spray Nozzle angle up or down. Locking Ring: Locks Motion Detector Unit securely to Spray Refill Can. Battery Door: Allows access to the 4 AAA batteries (not included). Step 1 Operating Guide To Insert and Remove the Battery The ssscat requires 4 replaceable AAA batteries (not included). The battery door is located on the top of the unit. Slide the battery door open. Insert the 4 AAA batteries as shown. Replace the battery door by positioning the top edge, and snap the bottom of the battery door back into place. Battery Life Average battery life is 2-3 months, depending on how often the unit activates. To conserve battery life, turn to the OFF position while the ssscat is not in use. AAA AAA AAA AAA Step 2 Prepare the ssscat Turn the unit off. Place Motion Detector Unit on top of refill can by pressing down firmly. The device will clamp onto can. Then slide the Locking Ring down to secure unit into position. Adjust angles between motion detection and spray directions according to the expected action of the unit. You can also adjust the direction of spray up or down. Step 3 Testing the ssscat Ensure the batteries have been installed and the unit is set to the ON position. Move your hand in front of the Motion Sensor. The unit will detect your presence and activate accordingly. Do not puncture or incinerate the refill canister. Do not expose to extreme heat. Step 4 Choosing a Location 1. Place the ssscat in a location you want your pet to avoid such as in a doorway, on kitchen countertops, window sills or around your trash can. 2. Slide the Spray Direction Switch up or down to the desired position. 3. Adjust the Motion Sensor by twisting left or right into one of the five positions. Note: The spray emits approximately 39 inches from unit. It is recommended that the unit be positioned at a level that would be at or below your pet s head. 39 inches www.petsafe.net 7

Step 5 Using the ssscat Place the ssscat where you don t want the pet to go (e.g. kitchen countertops, near potted plants, etc). Turn on spray; wait a few seconds for the Motion Sensor to stabilize itself. A spray will be released when the Motion Sensor detects the movement of the pet. Once this is repeated a few times, the spray will keep the pet away from unwanted areas. Care & Cleaning Turn off the ssscat. Use a cloth and mild soapy water to wipe the unit, paying close attention to cleaning the Spray Nozzle. Do not fully submerse the ssscat in water. It is recommended that the unit be cleaned about every other month to prevent clogging. The need for cleaning will depend on usage.
