Structure : The structure is a hybrid mix of Ultra-High Strength Steels (UHSS) including boron and aluminium. The platform, taken from the Evoque, is new from the B post rearwards. The hot-stamped boron material is used for the occupant cell, including the A and B posts and the door sill reinforcements. External body panels including the bonnet, front wings, roof and tailgate are aluminium, with a magnesium front cross-member for additional stiffness. Dimensions: 4599mm length, width 2069mm, height 1724mm, with a wheelbase of 2741mm. Technology : The Discovery features a pedestrian airbag as standard. The airbag is stowed at the base of the windscreen behind a small scuttle panel. This is triggered from a pressure tube located behind the front bumper cover, deploying the airbag for adult pedestrian impacts at speeds between 15-30mph. In addition the Discovery Sport features driver and front passenger SRS airbags, knee airbags, side curtain and seat/thorax airbags. InControl is a suite of applications for smartphones that can be accessed and controlled through the 8 colour touchscreen. This is tethered connectivity via a USB connection and includes services to summon roadside assistance or for the vehicle to be tracked if stolen. Halogen headlamps are standard fit on all models. These can be upgraded to Signature headlamps that feature Xenon and LED technology, and Signature Plus that incorporates adaptive-cornering technology.
ADAS : Autonomous Emergency Braking is standard on all models. This is a stereo camera based system that functions to avoid or mitigate accidents at speeds between 3 and 50mph. Park Assist enables automated steering into perpendicular or parallel parking space, with the driver controlling the pedals and gear selection. Traffic Sign Recognition will read traffic signs and display speed limits and no overtaking signs as appropriate in the instrument display. Lane Departure Warning will give a haptic (vibration) signal to the driver if the vehicle unintentionally starts to depart its lane.
Trim levels : SE, SE Tech, HSE, HSE Luxury SE features include 18 9-spoke alloy wheels, heated front screen and halogen headlamps. The interior features partial leather seats. SE Tech receives the same alloy wheels and heated front screen, but receives front fog lamps, Xenon headlamps, front parking sensors, a powered tailgate and a touchscreen navigation system.
