1 PRELIMINAY INFORMATION Precautions Like most evaluation kits, this product is designed for use in office and laboratory environments. The following practices will help ensure its proper operation. This product uses low power CMOS circuits which can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Partially damaged circuits can function erroneously, leading to misleading results. 2 OVERVIEW This Demokit is designed to help the user to achieve his/her objectives as quickly as possible. Evaluate the Adeunis-RF products. The user can transfer data from one PC to another using the ARF7439 Demokit. This enables the user to quickly find out how well the Adeunis-RF products fit the intended application. Perform RF measurements. Using a PC, the user can configure the radio module with parameters that suit the intended application and easily measure sensitivity, output power and other RF parameters. Develop a prototype. The ARF7439 Demokit includes some strip board areas and all signals of each radio module are brought out, this can permit easy connection of other circuitry. The user can easily make a prototype of the intended application. 3 - GETTING STARTED 3-1 Kit contents Complete Demo kit including 2 demoboards, 1 demoboard including: 1 x ARF7439 mother board or 1 ARF18 4-keys remote control (433 or 869MHz version) 1 x evaluation module (ARF18, ARF34, ARF44 or ARF54 module) 1 x 434 MHz, 869 MHz or 915 MHz whip antenna 1 x RS232 cable 1 x Mains adaptor 9V-500mA The technical documentation of each module can be downloaded on the web: www.adeunis-rf.com 07-04-V1-pft 3

3-2 Before starting Before using for the first time this Demo kit, the user has to do the following: 1 st step - Solder the radio module For ARF7439O/Q/R/S version, solder the plugged radio module in J3 slot For ARF7439K/M version, solder the SMD radio module on J100 footprint 2 nd step - Solder the whip antenna For ARF7439O/Q/R/S version, solder the whip antenna on the ANT1 footprint For ARF7439K/M version, solder the whip antenna on the ANT2 footprint 07-04-V1-pft 4

The center pin is used for the positive voltage, and the sleeve for ground. If a laboratory power supply is used, the ground should be connected to the 0V terminal on the power terminal block. The nominal operating voltage is 9V (6.5 to 40V). 4-2 Power LED Indicates when the evaluation board is powered. 4-3 3V3 and GND Areas 3V3 and GND areas are available on the edge of each strip board areas. An onboard voltage regulator supplies 3.3V to the board. 07-04-V1-pft 6

4-4 RS-232 Interface By the RS-232 interface, the user can configure the radio module with parameters that suit the intended application. This interface uses a voltage translation device so that the RS-232 port is compatible with bipolar RS-232 levels. 4 jumpers are available for disconnecting the RS-232 signals: - CV1: TXD - CV2: /RTS - CV3: RXD - CV4: /CTS For ARF7439S version, CV2 and CV4 jumpers must be not connected. 4-5 Power Supply Jumper Power Supply jumpers CV5 and CV6 allow the user to power on/off the radio module. 4-6 Radio module slot or footprint For ARF7439O/Q/R/S version, radio modules have to be soldered in J3 slot. For ARF7439K/M version, radio modules have to be soldered on J100 footprint. Be careful, ARF7294A and ARF7419A RF outputs are not on the same side of the footprint. 4-7 Radio module signals All signals of each radio module are brought out, that permits an easy connection of other circuitry. 4-8 Whip antenna or SMA connector By default, a whip antenna is provided with this Demo kit; however it is possible to solder a SMA connector for connecting coaxial cables. For 434MHz Demo kit, the length of whip antenna is 165mm. For 869MHz Demo kit, the length of whip antenna is 86mm. For 915MHz Demo kit, the length of whip antenna is 81mm. 07-04-V1-pft 7
