E-Learning Delivery Options

E-Learning Delivery Options Updated June 2010 ONLINE DELIVERY OPTION The online delivery option is provided at no additional charge to all Microsoft Software Assurance customers. This option enables people to access Software Assurance e-learning course product pools on the web. Note: Course pools refer to the grouping of e-learning content by course topics applications, systems, and servers. Companies are given access codes for product pools related to the type of Microsoft license purchased. For example, if a company acquires software licenses for Windows Server 2008, they receive an access code for the servers pool of courses. Separate access codes are issued for each course pool. Course pools include, but are not limited to, the following technologies: Applications Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Project Systems Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista Servers Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server E-Learning instruction can help your employees gain skills to be more productive with their current software or prepare for new versions, and it is always up-to-date with courses on the latest software. Students have "anytime, anywhere" access through any web connection. Students can also download courses for offline use. Benefits managers can activate the Software Assurance e-learning benefit through the Volume Licensing Service Center site at http://licensing.microsoft.com. Each e-learning pool (applications, systems, and servers) must be activated separately and will be available immediately in up to 16 languages. Benefits managers can then distribute the access codes to students to start using e- learning courses. Benefits managers can create and export reports that list student participation and progress through the Microsoft Learning Business Administration Center (BAC) at https://bac.microsoft.com. All Software Assurance e-learning courses are available by using the online delivery method. 2

Online delivery benefits Online delivery provides: Course access without a Learning Management System (LMS) Student selection of applicable courses in their preferred language Ability to download part of a course for offline use Access to all course pools Reporting on student progress Free delivery and immediate access to e-learning content The required Windows Live ID might increase support calls Benefits managers cannot assign individual courses to students SCORM DELIVERY OPTION The shareable content object reference model (SCORM) delivery option is available at no additional charge to all Enterprise (EA) or Select Agreement customers with the Software Assurance e-learning benefit. This option provides Software Assurance customers with the ability to download the applications and systems pools of SCORM courses. The courses can then be accessed within the organization s firewall through a SCORM 1.2 compliant LMS. LMS administrators have the full capabilities of their system for reporting, prescriptive learning, access, and catalog management. Courses can be downloaded for use of the customer s LMS at no additional charge from the Volume Licensing Service Center site at http://licensing.microsoft.com. For a nominal fee, you can acquire courses through a Large Account Reseller (LAR). Students are able to access these Software Assurance e-learning courses through their company s LMS by using familiar sign-in routines, while remaining behind a corporate firewall. Server courses are not available in the SCORM format due to the complexities of virtual labs within those courses. All server courses must be consumed online. One location to view student progress, transcripts, learning plans, and reports A simple download process for application and system courses Free course delivery (for EA and Select Agreement customers) Use of the LMS for: Administrative functions, such as catalog management User registration for assigning courses to individuals or groups Server courses are not available for this delivery option Access is not immediate courses must be loaded and configured within the LMS SCORM download packages are not available until about two months after the online version of a course has been released CONTENTHUB DELIVERY OPTION The ContentHub delivery option is for those customers who own an LMS that supports the Aviation Industry CBT (Computer-Based Training) Committee (AICC) communication protocol and do not want to host the content on their own server. Through the ContentHub delivery option, customers can launch and track their Software Assurance e-learning courses directly from their LMS by way of a partnership that Microsoft has formed with a third-party vendor. All application and system courses are available by using the ContentHub delivery option. For additional information about ContentHub delivery, please contact managecontent@elementk.com. ContentHub delivery benefits ContentHub delivery provides: Customer management of the course catalog Customer administrative control Centralized corporate training for transcript and reporting purposes Integration with most LMS systems on the market via AICC Additional costs apply for implementation and maintenance 4

MICROSOFT LEARNING RESELLER DELIVERY OPTION By using the Microsoft Learning reseller delivery option, customers can choose a third party to host and manage their Software Assurance e-learning courses. This option is especially attractive to those customers who do not have an LMS but want the capabilities of an LMS. The Microsoft Learning reseller will manage, maintain, and administer the customer s e-learning course catalog. Students are able to access Software Assurance e-learning courses through the portal created by their reseller. With the portal, students have one location to view their progress, transcripts, Learning Plans, and reports. Customers have access to the latest Software Assurance e-learning course pools for applications, systems, and servers. Pricing depends on the services that customers select from their reseller. Microsoft Learning reseller delivery benefits Microsoft Learning reseller delivery provides: Access to courses for applications, systems, and servers Catalog management, learning management, and detailed reporting by a third party Simplified access methods Customized solutions Turnkey solutions to Software Assurance e-learning deployment Additional costs might apply for development, implementation, and maintenance Involves additional development time 2010 Microsoft Corporation. Eligibility for Software Assurance benefits varies by offering and region and is subject to change. The Terms and Conditions of your Volume License Agreement and the Terms and Conditions under which any specific Software Assurance benefits are offered will take precedence in any case of conflict with the information provided here.
