Safety information Before setting up the monitor, carefully read all the documentation that came with the package. To prevent fire or shock hazard, never expose the monitor to rain or moisture. Never try to open the monitor cabinet. The dangerous high voltages inside the monitor may result in serious physical injury. If the power supply is broken, do not try to fix it by yourself. Contact a qualified service technician or your retailer. Before using the product, make sure all cables are correctly connected and the power cables are not damaged. If you detect any damage, contact your dealer immediately. Slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet are provided for ventilation. Do not block these slots. Never place this product near or over a radiator or heat source unless proper ventilation is provided. The monitor should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local power company. Use the appropriate power plug which complies with your local power standard. Do not overload power strips and extention cords. Overloading can result in fire or electric shock. Avoid dust, humidity, and temperature extremes. Do not place the monitor in any area where it may become wet. Place the monitor on a stable surface. Unplug the unit during a lightning storm or if it will not be used for a long period of time. This will protect the monitor from damage due to power surges. Never push objects or spill liquid of any kind into the slots on the monitor cabinet. To ensure satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed computers which have appropriate configured receptacles marked between 100-240V AC. If you encounter technical problems with the monitor, contact a qualified service technician or your retailer. This product contains chemicals, including lead, known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. v

Care & Cleaning Before you lift or reposition your monitor, it is better to disconnect the cables and power cord. Follow the correct lifting techniques when positioning the monitor. When lifting or carrying the monitor, grasp the edges of the monitor. Do not lift the display by the stand or the cord. Cleaning. Turn your monitor off and unplug the power cord. Clean the monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed with a cloth dampened with mild cleaner. Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with the LCD. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock. The following symptoms are normal with the monitor: The screen may flicker during the initial use due to the nature of the fluorescent light. Turn off the Power Switch and turn it on again to make sure that the flicker disappears. You may find slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the desktop pattern you use. When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or you can turn off the Power Switch for hours. When the screen becomes black or flashes, or cannot work anymore, contact your dealer or service center to fix it. Do not repair the screen by yourself! 1.3 Monitor introduction 1.3.1 Front view VX279Q / H 4 6 7 VX279N 4 2 7 1. Button: Activates the QuickFit function. (Please refer to 1.3.3 QuickFit Function). 2. 3.,, Button: Press this hotkey to switch from six video preset modes (Scenery Mode, Standard Mode, Theater Mode, Game Mode, Night View Mode, and srgb Mode) with SPLENDID Video Intelligence Technology. Exit the OSD menu or go back to the previous menu as the OSD menu is active. Automatically adjusts the image to its optimized position, clock, and phase by pressing this button for 2~4 seconds (for mode only). / Button: Decreases values or moves your selection left/down. 4. MENU Button: Turns on the OSD menu. Enacts the selected OSD menu item. Press this button for 5 seconds to activate the Key Lock function. Press it again for 5 seconds to disactivate the function. 5. Button: Increases values or moves your selection right/up. Brightness hotkey 6. Input Select Button: Selects an available input source(only available in VX279Q/H models). Press (Input Select button) to display /HDMI/DisplayPort signals after you connect a, HDMI/MHL, or DisplayPort cable with the monitor. 7. Power Button/Power Indicator: Press this button to turn the monitor on/off. The color definition of the power indicator is as the table below. HDMI/MHL port: This port is for connection with an HDMI/MHL compatible device. 2. port: This 15-pin port is for PC connection. 3. Audio-in port: This port connects PC audio source by the bundled audio cable. 4. Earphone jack: This port connects to an earphone. 5. DC-in port: This port connects the adapter. 6. Kensington Lock: This port connects a lock-and-cable apparatus for security purposes. 7. DisplayPort: This port is for connection for a DisplayPort compatible device. 8. EXIT EXIT QuickFit QuickFit EXIT QuickFit EXIT EXIT QuickFit QuickFit 1.3.3 QuickFit Function The QuickFit function allows users to have a preview of the document or photo layout directly on screen without printing test copies. QuickFit has three patterns: a. Grid pattern: Facilitates designers and users to organize content and layout on one page and achieve a consistent look and feel. Alignment Grid b. Paper size: Provides users to view their documents in real size on the screen. A4 Letter c. Photo size: Provides photographers and other users to accurately view and edit their photos in real size on the screen. 4x6 3x5 2x2 8x10 5x7 To activate QuickFit, press the QuickFit hotkey repeatedly to switch between different pattern sizes. When QuickFit is activated, press the control buttons to make adjustments. The QuickFit OSD displayed in the lower right corner of the screen will guide users to make selections. 1.3.4 GamePlus Function VX279 The GamePlus Function provides a toolkit and creates a better gaming environment for users when playing different types of games. In addition, Aimpoint function is specially designed for new gamers or beginners who are interested in First Person Shooter (FPS) games. To activate GamePlus: 1. Press the MENU button to activate the OSD menu. 2. Press / and to select System Setup and press the MENU button to enter the System Setup sub-menu. 3. Press / and to select GamePlus and press the MENU button to enter its sub-menu. 4. Press / and to select ON and press the MENU button to enter its sub-menu. To exit the OSD menu, press the button. 2.1 Assembling the monitor base 2.1.1 Assembling the base 1. Have the front of the monitor face down on a table. 2. Attach the base to the arm and fix with the screw to join them tightly. You can easily tighten the screw by fingers. 3. Adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you. We recommend that you cover the table surface with soft cloth to prevent damage to the monitor. ASUS LCD Monitor VX279 2-1

2.1.2 Detaching the base 1. Disconnect power and signal cables. Carefully put the front of the monitor face down on a clean table. 2. Use your fingers to loosen the screw located at the bottom of the base, and remove the base from the stand. 3. Or, you may directly use a screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the base to the stand, and detach the base from the stand. We recommend that you cover the table surface with soft cloth to prevent damage to the monitor. Hold the base while removing the screw. 2-2 Chapter 2: Setup

HDMI / MHL-1 HDMI / MHL-2 2.2 Adjusting the monitor For optimal viewing, we recommend that you look at the full face of the monitor, then adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you. Hold the stand to prevent the monitor from falling while changing its angle. You can adjust the monitor s angle from -5 to 20. -5 to +20 It is normal that the monitor slightly shakes while you adjust the viewing angle. 2.3 Connecting the cables VX279H Connect the cables according to the following instructions: HDMI / MHL-1 HDMI / MHL-2 HDMI / MHL Audio-in DC-IN Earphone jack ASUS LCD Monitor VX279 2-3

HDMI / MHL DVI VX279Q HDMI / MHL HDMI / MHL Audio-in DC-IN DisplayPort Earphone jack VX279N DVI DVI DC-IN To connect the power cord: a. Connect the adapter to the monitor's DC input. b. Connect one end of the power cable to the adapter, and the other end to a power outlet. To connect the /DVI, HDMI/MHL, or DisplayPort cable: a. Plug one end of the /DVI, HDMI/MHL, or DisplayPort cable to the monitor's /DVI, HDMI/MHL, or DisplayPort port. b. Connect the other end of the /DVI, HDMI/MHL, or DisplayPort cable to your computer's /DVI, HDMI/MHL, or DisplayPort port. c. Tighten the two screws to secure the or DVI connector. To connect the audio cable: connect one end of the audio cable to the monitor s Audio-in port, the other end to the computer s audio-out port. 2-4 Chapter 2: Setup

To use the earphone: a. When an HDMI/MHL or DisplayPort cable is connected, connect the end with plug type to the monitor s earphone jack. b. When /DVI and Audio-in-line is connected, connect the end with plug type to the monitor's earphone jack. When multiple video cable signals are connected, you can choose the desired input by pressing the Input Select key or select from the Input Select item in the OSD menu. HDMI port only available in VX279Q/H models. DVI port only available in VX279N models. DisplayPort only available in VX279Q models. 2.4 Turning on the monitor Press the power button. See 1.3.1 Front view for the location of the power button. The power indicator lights up in white to show that the monitor is ON. ASUS LCD Monitor VX279 2-5

3.1 OSD (On-Screen Display) menu 3.1.1 How to reconfigure VX279 1. Press the MENU button Splendid Scenery Mode to activate the OSD menu. Color Standard Mode Image Theater Mode 2. Press / and to Input Select Game Mode System Setup Night View Mode navigate through the functions. srgb Mode Highlight and activate the desired function by pressing the MENU Move Menu Exit button. If the function selected has a sub-menu, press / and again to navigate through the sub-menu functions. Highlight and activate the desired sub-menu function by pressing the MENU button. 3. Press / and to change the settings of the selected function. 4. To exit the OSD menu, press the button. Repeat step 2 and step 3 to adjust any other function. 3.1.2 OSD Function Introduction 1. Splendid VX279 This function contains six subfunctions that you can select for Splendid Scenery Mode Color Standard Mode Image Theater Mode your preference. Each mode has Input Select Game Mode System Setup Night View Mode the Reset selection, allowing you srgb Mode to maintain your setting or return to the preset mode. Move Menu Exit Scenery Mode: best choice for scenery photo display with SPLENDID Video Enhancement. Standard Mode: best choice for document editing with SPLENDID Video Enhancement. Theater Mode: best choice for movies with SPLENDID Video Enhancement. Game Mode: best choice for games playing with SPLENDID Video Enhancement. Night View Mode: best choice for dark-scene games or movies with SPLENDID Video Enhancement. srgb Mode: best choice for viewing photos and graphics from PCs. 3-1 Chapter 3: General Instruction

2. Color 3. Image In the Standard Mode, the Saturation, Skin Tone, Sharpness, and ASCR functions are not user-configurable. In the srgb Mode, the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Color Temp., Skin Tone, Sharpness, and ASCR functions are not userconfigurable. You can adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Color Temp., and Skin Tone from this menu. Brightness: the adjusting System Setup Skin Tone Smart View range is from 0 to 100. button is a hotkey to activate Move Menu Exit this function. Contrast: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. Saturation: the adjusting range is from 0 to 100. Color Temp.: contains four modes including Cool, Normal, Warm and User Mode. Skin Tone: contains three color modes including Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish. SmartView: provides better display quality under big viewing angle. In the User Mode, colors of R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) are user-configurable; the adjusting range is from 0 ~ 100. Focus: reduces the Horizonal-line noise and Vertical-line noise of the image by adjusting (Phase) and (Clock) separately. The adjusting range is from 0 to 100.
