The face piece must be charged with air for the time to stop. Safety checks must be performed and verbalized throughout. Materials Needed: Instructions: Complete Set of Personal Protective Equipment (includes Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) with Personal Alert Safety System (PASS) Device) To maintain consistency please judge the skill demonstration closely and solely by the criteria set out in this form. Provide written feedback comments at the end of the form. Debrief the outcome with the Probationary Firefighter, letting them know what they did correctly and how they can improve. If any element is not performed correctly assign them a FAIL and sign the bottom of the evaluation form. If they perform all elements correctly and you are confident they can repeat this performance to the same level, assign them a PASS and sign the bottom of the evaluation sheet. Record each attempt to demonstrate this competency in the Firefighter s training diary. Once completed, the evaluation form is directed to the District Fire Chief and a copy goes to the Probationary Firefighter Students will: Don Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), within 2 minutes The student will use the overcoat method for donning the SCBA and must be on air for the time to stop. Safety checks must be performed/verbalized throughout. Note: For SCBA without integrated PASS device, the time will not stop until the accessory PASS device has been enabled. Safety: Required Time: Allow several feet of space between students to prevent injuries. (as specified by NFPA 1001 Standard) 1 Minute to Don SCBA (2 minutes at orientation or pre-hire) References: Canadian Firefighter s Handbook, Chapter 7, pages 163 168. 1 of 2
