Etcoff has studied many aspects of human happiness. She believes that seeking happiness is natural to humans. For example, relationships made early people happy, so they formed communities, which are needed for survival. Another of Etcoff s ideas is that we are happiest when we are pursuing goals. For example, humans are happiest when they have just enough money, not extra money. An additional point she makes is that negative emotions, such as fear, can come out in situations where they aren t needed, like starting a new school. To be happy, we need to control these feelings. Overall, Kahn explains how Dr. Etcoff s work teaches us more about how humans can be happy.
