Manway Cannon Remotely controlled automated tank interior cleaning. The manual removal of dirt and residue from inside tanks using cleaning teams wearing protective clothing and breathing apparatus belongs in the past. This was physically and mentally stressful for the workers, time-intensive and by no means free of safety risks. The Manway Cannon method developed by us is the safest, most environmentally friendly solution for the internal cleaning of storage or crude oil tanks of any size. Sedimentation tank 1 Sedimentation tank2 Nitrogen (N2) Make way for the cleaning cannon. The Manway Cannon forms a unit consisting of a cleaning nozzle, video camera and searchlight, mounted in a cleaning opening of the tank. Controlled from a mobile control room with a self-sufficient energy supply, the flexible cleaning cannon can flush out any point in the tank with water or some other medium. A hydraulic pump generates the required pressure. Automated or joystick-controlled: the operator has it in full view. In the mobile control room, the cleaning process is monitored on several monitors and is digitally recorded and documented. The camera and cleaning cannon perform their tasks either automatically using special software or under the manual control of the operator. If there are ignitable residual products, the inside of the tank is inerted and the atmosphere is monitored by an online analysis station. If the maximum limit value is exceeded, the cleaning system automatically shuts down. Residual gas can be fed back to the tank through a cushion gas line when vacuuming out the cleaning residue. The technology: The system meets the requirements of the Machinery Directive and of RL 94 / 9/ EC: Explosion Protection Directive (ATEX 95) Zone 1 with respect to explosion protection: Flushing pressure up to 20 bar at 950 l / min. Online analysis station with infrared measuring technology for continuous monitoring of the gas atmosphere in the tank An overview of the advantages: Cleaning in a sealed system No direct exposure use of a cleaning team in the tank Time saving combined with a high standard of safety. COWS Crude oil washing system Our COWS (crude oil washing system) method is also carried out in a sealed system to ATEX standard (ATEX 95), Zone 1 and renders the use of personnel inside the tank during cleaning superfluous. The basic principle is dynamic sludge dissolution using heated crude oil, with the heated crude oil being introduced into the inerted tank through special nozzles in the sealed roof. How it s done: Sludge dissolution using heated crude oil. COWS automatic cleaning is achieved with the roof landed in the maintenance position. Before the tank is emptied, the sludge is mapped. The pneumatically driven injectors are positioned inside the tank through the roof leg supports. The tank is sealed, emptied and inerted before the washing operation. A supply tank is needed to provide fresh crude oil, it is preheated and pumped out to the injectors in the washing tank. During this phase solids are controlled by encouraging sedimentation using the tank as a decanter. The crude oil and the valuable recovered hydrocarbons (dissolved sludge) are vacuumed out by the COWS unit and transferred back to the supply tank. A final circulation with gas oil is undertaken to complete the dissolution of the sludge, to maximise hydrodynamic cleaning of the roof, wall and floor. The supply tank is kept under refinery specifications thanks to dedicated filters. Continuous filtration eliminates inorganic compounds such as sand, rusts, paintings etc. The supply tank can be operated during cleaning operations. When the automatic cleaning is finished (controlled with regular mapping) operators enter the tank to remove the few remaining inorganic solids and complete the internal clean. An overview of the advantages: No personnel in the sealed, inerted tank Optimisation / reduction of the gas atmosphere for fine cleaning Minimisation of the gas emissions by means of the sealed system Reduction of waste and recovery of crude Time and cost saving 6 Tank cleaning Tank cleaning 7
