INSERT / PATCH REPAIR Damaged area of floor PROCEDURE for LOOSE LAY FLOORING INSTALLATIONS

Tools Needed Razor knife Straight edge Double sided carpet tape Seam bond adhesive Acrylic emulsion adhesive 1/32 x1/16 x1/16 x1/32 x1/32 Notched Spreader

Select a piece of material that provides a shade and pattern match 1 1 1 1 Final Insert / Patch size 1 1 1 1 Cut an insert piece that is at least 1 1 inch larger on each side than the material being replaced.

Surround the area to be repaired with double sided tape Damaged area to be replaced Position the tape where cuts will be made. Cuts should be made in grout lines or areas where the flooring pattern will camouflage patch edges.

Align and secure the Insert / piece Insert piece held in place with double sided tape Align the pattern of the insert piece with the surrounding flooring pattern. Secure the insert piece over the existing area to be repaired with the double sided tape.

Double-cut through the Insert Piece and the original flooring Use a straight edge to insure cuts remain straight. Keep the knife perpendicular to the material being cut. Cut through both the insert piece and the original flooring at the same time. If a grout line is present, center the cuts in the grout line.

Remove both layers of the cut flooring Remove remaining scraps and tape Mark placement with a pencil Remove and mark the sub-floor and insert piece with a pencil. Remove the remaining scraps and tape from the face of the material.

Adhesive Application Spread adhesive Underneath all sides Of existing floor With a notched spreader, surround the cut area beneath the remaining floor with a 3-43 4 inch band of acrylic emulsion adhesive.

Adhesive Application Spread a thin bed of adhesive here as shown To secure insert. Cover the entire area where the insert is to be placed with acrylic emulsion adhesive. Use a spreader with a 1/32 x 1/16 x 1/32 notch.

Seam Treatment Apply an 1/8 bead of resilient flooring seam bond adhesive around the entire insert perimeter.

Installing the Insert Carefully tuck the insert into place forcing the seam bond adhesive up into the seam.

Clean-up and Roll Remove all traces of excess seam bond adhesive while wet Use a clean white cloth dampened with water to remove excess adhesive from the face of the material. Roll both the insert and surrounding area with a hand roller to ensure an even spread of adhesive and a good bond.

Completed Insert Repair Protect repaired area from foot and rolling traffic for 12 hours. Return to repair selections menu End presentation

Tools Needed Razor Knife Straight Edge Heat Gun Putty Knives Seam bond adhesive Acrylic emulsion adhesive 1/32 x1/16 x1/16 x1/32 Notched Spreader Masking & Double sided carpet Tape

Peel up the scrap Masking tape is used to mark insert corner Cut flooring & double sided tape scrap Remove the scrap material and the double-faced tape beneath. Note the Blue tape used to mark one corner of inset piece.

Heat the Damaged Piece Completely heat the area to be removed until warm to touch to soften the adhesive beneath.

Removal of Fully-adhered Piece After heating use a stiff putty knife to remove the damaged piece. e. The blue tape marks the same corners of both the pieces of material.

Adhesive Removal With a sharp scraper remove the adhesive down to a thin residue.

Adhesive Removal Along Seam Be certain to remove any adhesive build up Where seams will be present Carefully clean the adhesive along the seam and in the corners to prevent any seam ledging.

Substrate Repair Patching compound MUST Be fully cured If necessary, repair any damage to the substrate with appropriate patching compound. Allow patching compound to thoroughly cure.

Adhesive Application Apply an 1/8 bead of seam bond to all seams Use the notched trowel to completely coat the back of the patch with adhesive. Apply acrylic emulsion flooring adhesive to the back of the insert piece. Apply seam bond adhesive to all seam edges.

Installing the Insert Carefully tuck the insert into place forcing the seam bond adhesive up into the seam.

Clean-up and Roll Remove all traces of excess seam bond adhesive while wet Use a clean white cloth dampened with water to remove excess adhesive from the face of the material. Roll both the insert and surrounding area with a hand roller to ensure an even spread of adhesive and a good bond.

Completed Insert Repair Protect repaired area from foot and rolling traffic for 12 hours. Return to repair selections menu End presentation

Application of adhesive With a small putty knife, work acrylic emulsion flooring adhesive under the material as far as possible in all directions.

Seam Treatment Using a clean screwdriver hold the edge of the material apart and apply seam bond adhesive.

Adhesive Application Remove all traces of excess seam bond adhesive while wet Excess seam bond adhesive Force the seam bond adhesive up into the seam. Clean off the Seam Bond adhesive with a clean damp white cloth.

Clean-up & Secure Masking tape will hold seam together while seam bond cures Roll the area around the repair using a hand roller. Use masking tape to hold the seam together while the adhesive sets

Completed Permanent Repair Protect repaired area from foot and rolling traffic for 12 hours. Return to repair selections menu End presentation
