A large majority of these smartphones will be using the Android operating system. Android smartphones are more susceptible to a greater varieties of malware. The number of threats is rising fast, and they are being reported more and more in popular media: millions of consumers are affected every year. The developing world is the growth engine of telecoms and malware is expanding very rapidly. Consumer smartphone segment in India/Asia, China, Africa, ME and LatAm have hyper growth potential. II. Mobile Malware Threat Some threats are similar to ones on PCs such as: Phishing scams, 419 email scams, trojan horses and key loggers for pilfering of passwords card numbers, etc. Most of these are implemented for Android devices. Some threats are unique to smartphones: Premium Line auto call back schemes that can be unwittingly downloaded from the app store and makes use of simple code and some clever social engineering scamming techniques to defraud users. Most of these are implemented for Android devices. Many known social engineering schemes get user to reveal passwords and codes. Similar to PC scams but now adapted to use the computer inside the smartphone. However even unknowns based on socialengineering schemes exist that can be stopped if certain safe procedures, like those in the Defenx Security Suite, are in place. 10
III. Why protecting mobiles is essential In a 2013 research, Cap Gemini defined m payments as those where a mobile device is used, and the payment information flow takes place in real time through the air. In its scenario, Cap Gemini sees m payments growth driven primarily by peer 2 peer transactions in emerging markets and by consumer transactions in developed markets. This is happening at the crossroads of increased diffusion of smartphones, and innovative offerings by traditional financial players (banks) and the growth of specialized services like PayPal Here, izettle, Square. Remarkable, for example, the service offered by M Pesa in Kenya: in less than 12 months in 2012 the company has booked 17 million mobile account users, that hold, store and exchange cash through virtual accounts managed through their portable phones. Once people start using their mobiles as purses, protecting them from malicious code becomes essential. 11
Defenx Market Advantage The Company has several natural advantages in the smartphone security space: it has a working smartphone product that offers all the major features. Current product has 112,000 active licences to paying end users. It has vibrant branding that has been confirmed to play well in India. Brand offers both independent and sturdy down to earth qualities. And is expected to fit well with the Company s developing market strategy. It is a new independent entrant to the market and does not have legacy channels to protect with the fear of cannibalising revenues. It can sell to/through other channels such operators, MVNOs, handset manufacturers; or through traditional publishing distribution. It has the best channel fit with mobile operators: the Company s smartphone security suite offers mobile operators (and MVNOs) the best solution to keep their customers, in the face of McAfee or Symantec future offerings. 12
