Walton College Study Abroad and International Internship Scholarships and Funding Through the Global Engagement Office (GEO), the Sam M. Walton College of Business offers competitive scholarships and funding for study abroad and international internship experiences. Award decisions are based on merit and financial need. Merit is defined as a 3.0 GPA minimum the higher the better and financial need as determined by FAFSA and/or the case made for financial need in the essay. Walton Students are considered for: Center for Retailing Excellence Study Abroad Scholarship Center for Retailing Excellence Japan Study Abroad Scholarship Thomas F. and Donna McLarty Endowed Study Abroad Scholarship Joseph A. Note that the application process for a study abroad program or international internship is completely separate. Applications for study abroad/international internship scholarships outside of Walton College also have completely separate application process. All Applicants: Eligible students must be 1) an officially declared business major or minor and 2) enrolled in credit hours to be considered for this award and 3) enrolled in at least one credit hour at the time of the award. Note: Students on academic probation are not eligible for funding from the Walton College. Walton Students:

Attending a workshop offered by the Global Engagement Office and the Business Communications Center (located in WCOB 118 and formerly the Walton Writing Center) is highly recommended. Walton Honors Students: Walton Honors Students may be eligible for study abroad grants from the Honors College and MUST apply for an Honors College study abroad grant to be considered for study abroad funding from the Walton College. Walton awards will be decided after Honors College determines their awards. Note: Students who receive funding from the Honors College generally will not receive funding from Walton College except in extenuating circumstance. Honors applications are available online at: http://honorscollege.uark.edu/current-students/study-abroad-grants/index.php Attending a workshop offered by the Global Engagement Office and the Business Communications Center (located in WCOB 118 and formerly the Walton Writing Center) is highly recommended. The workshop will cover tips for the Honors College grants and Walton College funding. Walton Funding Application Materials Application Form: Please complete the online application, upload documentation, and submit on or before the deadline. Unofficial Transcript: MUST HAVE MAJOR(S) AND MINOR(S) LISTED The best (and free) option is to go to: ISIS, Student Center, See other academic.. in drop-down menu in first section. Select Transcript: view unofficial and click forward arrow. For Report type select Unofficial Copy in drop-down menu. Click go. Copy and paste into Word and upload as a Word or PDF document in application. Double check that your major(s) and minor(s) are listed. (Do not use SCRIPT-SAFE because it does not list major/minor). Résumé: Upload your current résumé. Be sure to have the Walton College Career Center or the Business Communications Center (located in WCOB 118 and formerly the Walton Writing Center) review your résumé. Faculty Recommendation: Please provide the 1) name and 2) email address of a WALTON COLLEGE faculty member (someone you have had in class). The faculty member will be sent an email with a link to a survey to complete on your behalf. The faculty deadline is one week following application deadlines. Be sure to follow up with your recommender. Personal Statement/Essay: A personal statement / essay (600 word limit/double spaced) that addresses each of the following topics: interest and intention for this study abroad program/internship opportunity how the program will enhance your degree program and career goals your financial need for scholarship support any special circumstances that warrant consideration See Essay Rubric on page 4 of this document. Plan to use at least 1/3 of your essay to state your case for financial need. It is highly recommended that you use the Walton's Business Communications Center (located in WCOB 118 and formerly the Walton Writing Center) to review your essay.

Check List: 1) Completed application form, signed, and dated 2) Résumé 3) Unofficial transcript 4) Walton College Faculty Name and Email Address for a recommendation 5) A personal statement/essay 6) Be available for an interview, if requested. Agreement: Applicants must agree to the following statements: By signing this application, I attest to the accuracy of the information provided. I give my approval to the appropriate officials to review my files in the Walton College and the Office of Financial Aid. This permission includes review of my transcript. If I am awarded financial assistance and when I am in a better position at a future date after graduation, I agree to contribute to the Walton College study abroad program. Recipient Expectations: Recipients must submit a thank you via the Walton College s on-line system and complete an acceptance form agreeing to stated expectations. Expectations vary slightly per funding sources. One is included here for a general idea. We also ask that students contribute to helping students study abroad after graduation.

Global Engagement Scholarship Rubric Please create a personal statement / essay (600 word limit) that describes your interest and intentions in the study abroad program, how the program will enhance your degree program and career goals, your financial need for scholarship support, and any special circumstances that warrant consideration. Furthermore, I understand that my withdrawal from my intended study abroad program will result in forfeiture of this award and repayment if necessary. I understand that these funds will be awarded to me at the beginning of the semester (usually the 11th day of classes) in which I am enrolled for the study abroad program. I also understand that this award will be applied toward my student account and will be released to me only if I have no outstanding balance (i.e. UA charges for tuition/fees, library/dps fines, Health Center charges, etc.). I understand that I must be enrolled in at least 1 credit hour to receive this award. I hereby consent and authorize the use and reproduction by the University of Arkansas, of any and all descriptions, photographs or other documentation related to the study abroad trip, for educational and promotional purposes. I will contact the Global Engagement Office (479-575-4765) and the Study Abroad Office (479-575-7582) immediately if my plans change in any way or if I drop any course or withdraw from this study abroad program. I agree to support Center for Retailing Excellence by sharing my experience with the CRE Board and others as requested, providing photos and a written account of my experience. I also agree to support the Walton College s study abroad efforts by participating in at least two of the following activities: Blogging while studying abroad; presenting in a class or other gathering about my experience; helping at study abroad fairs, information tables and/or sessions; sharing photos; talking with interested students; etc. I understand that I am strongly encouraged to join Students for Retailing Excellence (STORE) the semester following my study abroad experience.
