In addition to anti-virus, it now includes anti-spyware, desktop firewall, and application protection features. McAfee Security can be used as a standalone product. You can also deploy and manage McAfee Security across multiple client computers using McAfee epolicy Orchestrator. PRODUCT FEATURES - Desktop firewall preventing unauthorized network access. - Application protection preventing unwanted application execution and restricting unauthorized network access to applications.
- Protection from spyware. - McAfee menulet on the status bar enabling easy access to McAfee Security. - Enhanced dashboard displaying: - Latest events of scanning, anti-malware update, prevention of application execution, and denial of network access to applications. - Status of on-access scanning, spyware scanning, application protection, and desktop firewall protection. - Instance of the last anti-malware update. - The History screen displaying all anti-malware and application protection events. - Quarantining malware is supported. - Enhanced McAfee Alert and McAfee Notification mechanisms. - Manageable through McAfee epolicy Orchestrator 4.5 or 4.6 ADDITIONAL FEATURES McAfee Security 1.1 also supports: - Specifying extended set of primary and secondary actions for on-access and on-demand scans. - Specifying regular expression based exclusions for on-access scan and on-demand scan separately. - Specifying desktop firewall trusted networks. - Whitelisting applications based on their locations. - Running multiple on-demand scans immediately at the same time. - Scheduling multiple on-demand scans to run simultaneously. - Enhanced MER tool for collecting diagnostic data of the software.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS - Mac computer with an Intel processor - 1 GB RAM or higher SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS - Minimum 300 MB of free disk space (500 MB recommended) Operating System: - Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 or later - Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 or later NOTE: While installing McAfee Security 1.1, if you have a version of VirusScan for Mac (or Virex) installed on your computer, it will be overwritten. REMOVING THIRD PARTY SECURITY SOFTWARE AND ASSOCIATED FILES The McAfee Security installation process stops if you have previously installed Symantec, Intego, or Sophos security software on your Mac OS X computer. After you uninstall Symantec, Intego or Sophos, some files may remain on your computer, which causes problems when you try to install McAfee Security. To resolve this issue, remove the following files (if they exist) before you continue with installation. - Sophos (SAVI.framework) /Library/Frameworks/SAVI.framework- - Symantec (NAVLibX) /Library/Application Support/Norton Solutions Support/Norton Antivirus/Engine/NAVLibX - Norton (NAVLibX.bundle) /Library/Application Support/Norton Solutions Support/Norton AntiVirus/Engine/NAVLibX.bundle - VirusBarrier (VirusBarrier.kext) /Library/StartupItems/VirusBarrier/VirusBarrier.kext
- Intego VirusBarrier x5 /Applications/VirusBarrier X5.app NOTE: McAfee Security 1.1 does not co-exist with any third party anti-virus software. Any such instance may result in unexpected issues. UNINSTALLING THE EXISTING NON-WINDOWS AGENT (NWA) Before installing McAfee Security, uninstall the existing NWA from your computer. PREREQUISITE: You must have administrator rights to uninstall NWA. To uninstall NWA: Type the following command in the Terminal window and press return : /Library/NETAepoagt/cmduninst NOTE: To open the Terminal window, double-click the Terminal application located under /Application/Utilities or click the Terminal icon in the dock. If you do not uninstall NWA before installing McAfee Security, an alert appears at the initial stage of the installation process prompting you to uninstall the existing NWA.
