Traveling and Transportation to The Garrison Institute The Garrison Institute is located directly off Route D in Garrison, New York, within Putnam County. The facility is 50 miles north of New York City and approximately 30 minutes from the city of Poughkeepsie, NY. Major highways nearby include Interstate 84, Route, the Palisades Parkway and the Taconic State Parkway. We offer on-site parking for those who will arrive by car. TRAIN Garrison, NY is just over an hour from Grand Central Station in NYC. Take the Metro North Railroad to the Garrison Train Station via the Hudson Line. Train times vary but generally arrive and depart approximately every hour. A no-cost, no reservation required shuttle service is available from the Garrison Train Depot (one mile away) to the Garrison Institute during registration hours (approx. 3-6pm), and immediately after lunch on the closing day of an event. There is also a one-mile long walking path through the woods from the Garrison Train Depot to the Institute, lovely during good weather. For travelers in the Albany area, AMTRAK service is available to Poughkeepsie, New York (approximately 1 hour train ride). Connect with a Metro-North commuter train to Garrison (30 minute ride). Coming from NYC, head away from the river to the southern most exit of the parking lot. Look for the sign that says Arden Point ; the path heads into the woods. Stay straight on the path all the way to Garrison Institute. After about 10 minutes the path gets narrower, rockier, and somewhat uphill; you will need walking shoes. Eventually, you will see a sign for Garrison Institute and come to a big field. The Institute is on your left. Head up the steps to the front entrance. BUS Shortline Bus service is available into the Poughkeepsie, NY station (approximately 30 minutes to Garrison). Upon arrival at the station, local taxi service is available (see taxi service below). AIR Garrison is accessible via the large greater New York Metropolitan area s: LaGuardia Airport, JFK Airport and Newark International Airport as well as the localbased, Steward Airport. LaGuardia and JFK Airports Queens, New York From LaGuardia/JFK: Travel times to/from these NYC s vary due to traffic and weather related conditions but are generally 1 hour and 30 minutes from LaGuardia and 1 hour and 45 minutes from JFK (Kennedy Airport). 1. Take a NY Airporter bus or a taxi (located curbside) from the to the Grand Central Train Station in mid-town Manhattan, NY, where you can catch a Metro-North train on the Hudson Line to Garrison, NY. We provide a no-cost, no reservation shuttle service from the train station to the Institute during registration hours. This is the least expensive travel option. Allow approximately 3 hours for total travel time. 2. Additionally, the Metro-North train station Harlem- 125th Street (at 125th St. & Park Ave.) receives/drops off passengers travelling on the Hudson Line. For air travelers arriving at LaGuardia, this station is much closer than Grand Central Station and will be less expensive for transportation to/from the. 3. Book a reserved car service (see Visconti Transportation) or rent a car at the Garrison is approximately an hour and 30 minute drive. Car service rates vary but cost between $170 and $210 for service to and from LaGuardia and $180 to $230 for service to and from JFK one-way (including tip & gratuity). Newark International Airport Newark, New Jersey From Newark: Travel time to/from this NY metro varies due to traffic and weather related conditions but is generally 1 hour and 30 minutes. 1. Take an Olympia Trails Airport Express bus or a taxi (located curbside) from the to the Grand Central Train Station in mid-town Manhattan, NY, where you can catch a train on the Hudson Line to Garrison, NY. Trains arrive into Garrison approximately every hour. We provide a no-cost, no reservation shuttle service from the train station to the Institute during registration hours. This is the least expensive travel option. Allow approximately 3 hours for total travel time. 2. Book a reserved care service (see Visconti Transportation below) or rent a car at the Garrison is approximately an hour and 30 minute drive. We provide a nocost, no reservation shuttle service from the train station to the Institute during registration hours. This is the least expensive travel option allow at least one hour travel time. 2. Book a reserved car service (see Visconti Ground Transportation below, call a taxi, or rent a car at the ) Garrison is approximately a 40 minute drive. TAXI & CAR SERVICE For traveling to and from the Garrison Institute we can suggest the following transportation vendors: FROM NEW JERSEY Take I-5 to the Palisades Parkway North Exit (this is a LEFT exit). From there, follow Option 1 direction from Manhattan. Follow Palisades going North to the Bear Mountain Bridge (exist US 202N/US-6E). Cross the Hudson River bearing left onto Route D North. Follow Route D for approximately 4 miles (you will go past Manitoga Nature Center) to the Glenclyffe property with the Garrison Institute sign on your left side (NOTE: you will also see a sign for Claudio Marzolo Community Center of Philipstown). Take the left into the driveway, bear slightly to the right, and you will see the Institute a large, brick building on the right. Option 2: Take the Henry Hudson Parkway to the Saw Mill River Parkway heading north into Westchester County. Follow the Saw Mill River Parkway to the Taconic State Parkway North. Continue on the Taconic State Parkway to the second exit for Cold Spring/Route 301 West (go under the overpass for this exit). Take a right off the ramp onto Route 301 WEST. FROM WESTCHESTER Take Route North toward Fishkill. At the traffic light at the junction of Route 403 turn left. Follow Route 403 to the end and then make a left on Route D South. Go approximately ¼ mile; you will see the Highlands Country Club golf course on the right side. Take the next right into the Glenclyffe property with the Garrison Institute sign (next to a sigh for Claudio Marzolo Community Center of Philipstown). Down the driveway, bear slightly to the right, and you will see the Institute a large, brick building on the right. FROM THE NORTH Take the Taconic State Parkway South to the first exit for Cold Spring/Route 301 West. Take a right off the ramp onto Route 301; follow to the Village of Cold Spring, and proceed with Option 2 directions from Manhattan. FROM CONNECTICUT Take Route 84 West into NY. Take exit 13S to NY Route South. Follow Route South (into Putnam County) to Route 301 West towards Cold Spring. Turn right onto Route 301 into the Village of Cold Spring. From there, follow Option 2 directions from Manhattan. Follow Route 301 into the Village of Cold Spring (you will cross Route ). At the light in Cold Spring make a left onto Route D South. Continue on Route D into Garrison, passing Junction 403 (on your left) and see the Highlands Country Club golf course on the right. Take the next right into the Glenclyffe property with the Garrison Institute sign (NOTE: you will also see a sign for Claudio Marzolo Community Center of Philipstown). Down the driveway, bear slightly to the right, and you will see the Institute a large, brick building on the right. 3
