This line card is an addition to the existing access layer line modules. The new line module is the industry s first 10/100 module integrated with TDR for simplified cable fault detection in addition to existing jumbo-frame and quality-of-service (QoS) capabilities. Cisco introduces the industry s first 96-port 10/100 RJ-21 module with optional PoE support for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series (Figure 2). This module complements the 96-port RJ-45 module that is currently shipping. The new line module provides customers double the port density in the same footprint with industry-standard RJ-21cable infrastructure, and it does not require an external splitter panel to support 96 ports. The line module is field-upgradable to support IEEE 802.3af PoE with the daughter card (part number WS-F6K-FE48X2-AF=). ENHANCED 48-PORT 10/100/1000 RJ-45 MODULE WITH JUMBO FRAME Figure 3. The new line module, with the existing TDR capability for better fault management, adds jumbo-frame support for higher end-to-end performance from server to client and enhanced QoS capabilities (deeper and more per-port queues) for greater network scalability. The line module is field-upgradable to support IEEE 802.3af PoE with the daughter card (part number WS-F6K-GE48-AF=). FLEXIBLE 48-PORT 100BASE-X MODULE WITH SFP SUPPORT Figure 4. Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Flexible 48-Port 100BASE-X Module with SFP Support Cisco introduces a new 48-port 100BASE-X module for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series (Figure 4). The new line module is fiber-optic-based 100BASE-X with modular SFP options, helping enable a broader range of deployment options. The new module offers jumbo-frame support, up to 9000 bytes, and "pay-as-you-grow" investment protection and flexible redeployment options using new, industry-standard SFP high-density modular optics that are hot-pluggable. 2005 All rights reserved.
