THE WAIKATO MBA:» Equips you with the skills necessary to lead strategically» Broadens functional and technical business understanding» Adds best-practice management know-how to your practical knowledge» Uses group work to discuss and understand business from multiple and diverse perspectives» Prepares you to confidently lead, transform, sustain and create business in a global environment» Includes a 7-10 day International Study Tour with seminars, business tours and meetings with business leaders. THE WAIKATO MBA IS A TWO YEAR PROGRAMME TAUGHT PART-TIME AND IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR:» Those with at least five years relevant management experience» Future business leaders» Business owners or entrepreneurs who are looking to add best-practice theory to their practical expertise to take their organisation forward. WAIKATO MBA AT THE WAIKATO-TAINUI COLLEGE FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT The Waikato MBA at the Waikato-Tainui College for Research and Development (the College) is delivered as a residential programme within a supportive kaupapa Maaori environment. Participants are encouraged to reside at the College, on a fortnightly basis, from Thursday evening, with classes held on Friday and Saturday. Participants explore real-world, real-time business challenges including case studies of organisations involved in and relevant to Maaori business and industry. Prominent Maaori and indigenous guest speakers are invited to provide participants with a Maaori/ indigenous perspective to the programme. Participants are also provided with mentors who are Maaori and MBA graduates. The College is located at Hopuhopu, 20km north of Hamilton. WAIKATO-TAINUI COLLEGE FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT 3

WAIKATO MBA CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES In collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Corporate & Executive Education offers Career Development Services to all Waikato MBA participants. You will complete a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality profile in the early stages of your programme. This measures your preferences in a number of areas including how you prefer to make decisions and how you perceive the world. You will be invited to attend a session to receive your MBTI profile feedback and discuss the relevance of the profile to your studies and your career. In addition to this, you will be offered a Career Development Programme in Part Two of your MBA. This consists of up to five hours of specific one-to-one tailored career development support from a PwC expert. This Career Development Programme will help you align your psychological profile with your current and intended future roles and working environment, and offer guidance on how you can maximise your potential within your organisation and throughout your career. Hana Grant (MBA) SERVICE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, POUTIRI TRUST Hana Grant (Ngati Pikiao and Tapuika) graduated with an MBA in 2010. A highlight from her study was the 10-day study tour to China and Singapore. We met some amazing business people from diverse organisations big and small, says Hana. What I found most exciting was that they all expressed a business ethic that recognised the importance of relationships and family, similar to how Maaori view the world. The MBA has focussed Hana on her own fields of expertise which she now applies to her new role as Service Development Manager at Poutiri Trust, based in the Bay of Plenty. Innovation, capability and capacity building are her strengths which she aims to foster in the 18 Hauora providers that are part of the Poutiri provider network. Having completed the MBA, Hana believes that people are our promise and she is now well equipped and confident to put her hand to that plough. 4 CORPORATE & EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW The Waikato MBA is a two year programme made up of two intensive parts and the International Study Tour. It is taught part-time so you can keep working while you study. The Waikato MBA curriculum is built on five pillars: Creativity and Innovation, Leadership, Organisational Fundamentals, Strategy, and Research. These five pillars provide you with a solid foundation to develop leadership qualities that are considered most important for the world economy that is increasingly characterised by complexity and change. Results from the recent Global IBM CEO study show that the four most important CEO leadership qualities are creativity, integrity, global thinking, and influence. The papers constituting the Creativity and Innovation pillar are: Knowledge Management; Integrative paper: Identifying and Planning New Ventures; Creativity, Enterprise and Innovation; and Business Strategy, Value Creation, and Execution. These papers, spread across Part One and Part Two of the MBA programme, develop your ability to identify new opportunities and provide the tools and framework to bring these creative ideas to fruition. GLOBAL THINKING Strategy CREATIVITY Organisational Fundamentals Research Creativity and Innovation INTEGRITY Leadership INFLUENCE The papers constituting the Leadership pillar are: Management Communication, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution; People, Organisations, and High Performing Teams; Leadership Transformation and Growth; and Governance, Sustainability and Ethics. You are introduced to some aspects of leadership in Part One, and the leadership pillar is enhanced in Part Two. You develop the ability to manage self and others, and learn to recognise the need to be authentic in behaviour. This enhances your leadership quality of integrity and your ability to influence. The papers constituting the Organisational Fundamentals pillar are: Management and Sustainability; Financial and Managerial Accounting; Operations and Supply Chain Management; and Law and Business. These papers provide you with a systemic view of your organisation and how each function operates and interrelates. These fundamentals are embedded in Part One of the MBA programme. The papers constituting the Strategy pillar are: Managerial Economics and the Global Business Environment; Strategy and Marketing; Strategic Corporate Finance and International Business: Culture and Markets. These papers enhance your ability to understand the impact of the wider economy on your sector, your ability to understand the impact of national cultures on global business, and how best to strategise and position your product and services. This pillar, along with the Organisational Fundamental pillar, gives you a global mindset, which is considered an important leadership quality in an age of complexity and change. All participants in Part Two complete the Business Research Methods paper and a major research project. This makes up the Research pillar. The ability to combine previous research and learning, with new insights that come through practice, is a fundamental quality of a thought leader. This is developed through our Research pillar.
