FREEDOM FORTNIGHT 9th August 2016 23rd August 2016 In compliance to the notification No. F.No.54-13/2016-TS.I dated 3rd Aug, 2016 from Govt of India, as notified by Registrar, ABV-IIITM on 5th Aug, 2016, for celebration of Freedom Fortnight from 9-23 Aug, 2016, a committee of officials from IIITM has been formed to decide the program schedule in compliance to the notification. In pursuance of the same, a series of events have been planned to be organized in the campus through newly student activity council. It was decided that the period from 9th August 2016 to 23rd August 2016 be celebrated as Azadi 70- Yaad Karo Kurbani (Freedom Fortnight) to re-instill the spirit of freedom struggle and national movement among the younger generation. The 14days of this celebration have been the days of full patriotism in campus, as almost every day, there was at least one competition related to this theme or preparation for next day. Students, faculty as well as staff of institute has actively participated in this mega event. The whole green and clean campus of IIITM was beautified with tricolor lightings and it was complete patriotic ambience. The Student Activity Council organized several events and competitions. These events showed active participation of students. 1

Day-Wise Events: 09-10 th August 2016 Greeting Cards and Slogan writing for Army Jawans at Border: The students prepared greeting card for jawans posted at border wishing them Happy Independence Day. 11 th August 2016 Mass Tree Plantation: Mass tree plantation by new students of batch IPG-2016, we planted 70 ashoka trees, near the new academic block, to celebrate 70 years of Azaadi. 12 th August 2016 Mass Tree Plantation: Mass tree plantation by new students of batch M.Tech 2016. We planted 70 different fruits plants to celebrate 70 years of Azaadi, near the Girls Hostel. 15 th August 2016 Independence Day Celebration: Celebrated Independence Day with flag hoisting by Prof. S.G. Deshmukh, our respected Director, following with mass recitation of National Anthem. Various performances wre given by students like group dance, solo song, speech, poetry, etc. in presence of guests of honor Mr. Priyank Narayan from Ashoka University, Prof. Debesh from Adamas University, and Dr. Sebestian from France. A special session on remembering the freedom fighters was also conducted by Col. K. S. Jushwahm, where he shared his experience of 1965 and 1971 war and also on kargil win. After that we had interacted during the sessions by Dr. Priyank, Dr. Debesh and Dr. Sebestian on the new challenges for the modern India marching towards smart India. Rangoli Competition: A Rangoli competition on the theme of Independence Day. 2

16 th August 2016 Essay Writing Competition: Essay writing competition in English and Hindi on the topic How free is India with word limit 500 words. 17 th August 2016 Speech Competition: Speech competition in English and Hindi on the topic What Liberty Means to Me 19 th August 2016 Poem Writing Competition: Poem writing competition in English and Hindi on the topic The Important Symbolism Of The Unknown Soldier 20 th August 2016 Play / Skit competition: A Skit competition on the theme Freedom Movement. 3

21-22 nd August 2016 Slogan Writing Competition: Slogan writing competition on topic Yaad karo qurbani. Veerta Samman Samaroh: Organized a Veerta Samman Samaroh to honor the sacrifices of Brave soldiers by felicitating 5 war widows of Gwalior-Chambal Region. During this, Brigadier Bakshi has conducted a nice workshop for all the students and staff by sharing his experience and talked about the various challenges of future. Director of the institute has honored the families of Brave Soldiers/Officers of our Army lost their life for the nation. A display board highlighting the names of Brave soldiers/officers who dedicated their life in protecting us from evil forces was made and we offered our tributes to these brave soldiers. 4

23 rd August 2016 Mass Recitation of National Anthem: Mass recitation of National Anthem at 11:00am, all the students, staff and faculty participated in this program with great dedication and devotion for their country. Mass Tree Plantation: Mass tree plantation was organized again on this closing ceremony by institute fraternity, near the new block. Patriotic Song Singing Competition: In the evening, we organized a patriotic song singing competition with time limit of 6 minutes. Freedom Fortnight Closing Ceremony: Distributed prizes of all the prize winners in events of Freedom Fortnight and oath ceremony of Student Activity Council members. SGM group has also made their performance. The 14 days event ended with oath ceremony of student activity council and best wishes of Director, who took promise from all the present over there in auditorium that this is not the end of this Freedom Fortnight but a beginning of new way to keep remembering the effort of our great heroes who made our life free from British rule and allowed us to breath in open air. Not only that, he has also motivated us to always think about contributing towards nation building. We thanked each and every one for their contribution in making this 14 days celebration a grand success. 5
